I just found out I'm a girly girl.

I've posted elsewhere about my fiancé's daughter's upcoming wedding. Krystal is a pretty edgy woman...tattoos, piercings, green hair, like that. One of the reasons we get on as well as we do!! :D She's also natural and wholistic in her approach to life in general, eats very cleanly, vegan, uses natural products in her house, on her person etc.

She asked me the other day if I'd help her with her wedding apparel. She doesn't want a traditional wedding dress, but wants a more bohemian look. Lace and all, just not ballgown looking. And some ideas for her hair, and a headdress of some kind. Mentioned her nails...that sort of thing. I was more than happy to help, in fact I was thrilled! I did as her though if her friends might not be of more help, as they're her generation and a lot of them similar in style to Krystal herself.

She waved that away, saying no that wouldn't work, that she really need a "girly girl's" help. Well. OK then.

Apparently a girly girl is a person who manifests a more feminine appearance and tends to act in a more traditionally feminine way.....hair, makeup, clothing, jewelry and the like. Who wholeheartedly embraces her femininity without sacrificing her personality or strength. I'd never heard the term before, but I really like it!! Yeah, I am definitely a girly girl!

So, armed with that knowledge, what about you, ladies? Are any of you a girly girl?

I know what a girly girl is but I am not one. I am just me. One example is I only do my finger nails up nice once or twice a year. Things like that is how I define a girly girl. I do wear ear rings every day but I hate "ruffles and rings and bows and things." I don't like to spend a lot of time fixing myself up. I wear make up almost every day but it only takes me about 2 minutes to slam it on. I make sure I get a good haircut because I just brush it, not much else.

Ronni, I think you will be perfect for helping make a cool wedding! What a compliment she gave you! I hope we get to see pictures.

Linda, anyone who wears earrings every day and make up every day is a girly girl! :love_heart:

I wear earrings every day, but very little makeup, except when I'm on stage. I've never been into makeup particularly.

So does that make me half a girly girl? ;)

I don’t ever wear jewellery since I’m a woodworker but I do paint my finger & toe nails, have long hair that gets either put into a 2 braid pony tail or a bun. It takes a few minutes max but the hair accessories almost always match the nails and eye liner. My make up takes about 10 minutes . I only wear mascara , eye liner and a bit a blush. Specialty occasions get coloured lips and possibly high heels but I don’t wear them often.
As soon as the nice weather comes I’ll be wearing skirts, dresses or skorts. At the moment it’s usually leggings or yoga pants and blouses or t shirts.

Our house often has flowers in a vase, scented candles and splashes of feminine touches and colour.
So while I most certainly have some Tom Boy characteristics, I’m ALL woman.

It most certainly IS a compliment to be called a girly girl.
It means you are highly in touch with your feminine energy.

I am definitely not a girly girl. I think I have a dress somewhere in the closet. I never wear makeup but on a rare occasion I'll put on a little nail polish. I have pierced ears from when I was a teen and have two good sets of earrings. One from the hubby the other from my daughter. I wear my engagement ring along with my Moms and Grandmas on the other hand. I switch sometimes to my birthstone ring that I've had since the 8th grade. I do like perfume though.

I have a charm bracelet that I've kept up to date since I was in grade school . I rarely wear it.

I could care less about my hair as long as it is clean. I cut it myself. I wet it each morning, brush it and however it turns out is the way it stays for the day.

My formal wear consists of nice slacks and blouse. If anything more is required I don't go.

I've always loved being a girl. I've felt that way since I was little. I've always liked being strong, too. A strong girly girl---that's me. :)

Y'know, several of you have mentioned dresses in relation to being a girly girl. I mostly dislike dresses. Most of the more dressier outfits I wear are pants and some kind of dressy top. I'm just not a dress gal. I do wear them for dance performances sometimes...I think I might have posted a photo or two of me in a competition dress or some such. I have a couple I wear in the summer, with sandals. Most of my evening wear is pants too...wide leg pants with a sparkly top, or pants made of tulle with sparkles embedded in the tulle and a slinky top...like that.

I do have a LOT of jewelry. And when I say a lot, I mean it!! Here, let me show you a couple pics.....

Most of my necklaces are hung.

And then I have a jewelry armoire that holds rings, earrings...SO MANY EARRINGS!! Bracelets, anklets, pins and brooches, and other random pieces.

I am unapologetically into jewelry!

I own very few pieces that are actually worth anything! My engagement ring is my most expensive thing. Most everything else is costume, costing well under $10. And people know how much I love jewelry, so I'm always being given jewelry as gifts.

Lookit! We picked out a couple dresses from a non-traditional wedding dress type website, and she sent me pics when they arrived. I think this is the one she's going to go with. We pored over various undergarments and such yesterday, and we may have to get the dress altered a tiny bit, but she's thrilled with the look.
