I just learned about Nonenal Odor - the Old People smell - and sniffed my shirt

Now you have me wondering if I have been offending people around me. I am one who takes personal hygiene as a daily responsibility, but this scientific discussion has never entered my mind. Isn't there some other solution like a persimmon pill or vaccination? This might be something a bunch of old geezers should look into as a business.
you should start one...lol

At least not for my French cousin and his wife. Every time they visited us in Germany in August they didn't shower for nearly a week. But we have a large spacious shower in which even two people could shower (ideal for couples) and my wife and me shower every day.

They don't take a shower in their French house too. We did it, althouh it was difficult since they have no seperate shower cabin and we had to use a part of the bathtub. The other half was full of flowers.
...ahh but everybody knows..at least all of us in Europe, that the French are dirrrtyyy!😣

I might give persimmon soap a try. But so far, Yardley lavender bar soap seems to do the trick. Love the aroma!
yes but that's the mistake people are making, using the same soap they've always used not realising the body has changed.... and ordinary soap is no longer enough...

Use the yardley soap for washing your hands and face if yu like it so much.... and use the Persimmon soap for showers (y)

I;m very aware of this..not that I smell......yet...but a long time ago I read about it, and apparently the Japanese elderly use a soap called Persimmon Tannin Soap (Kakishibu) which removes toxic smells from the body...

When I read about it, I bought 2 bars which are in my Bathroom Vanity for whenever the need might arise...

this is them

When you do finally decide to use it, let us know if you can notice any difference than any other deodorant soap.

Everyone is different. Unless I go out every day, I don't shower every day. Every other day suits me fine, of course on the days I don't shower, I will take a sponge bath. As we get older, most of us will run into having drier skin than when we were younger, and all of that extra water tends to dry us out more. Below is part of one article I googled online.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Many doctors say a daily shower is fine for most people. (More than that could start to cause skin problems.)

But for many people, two to three times a week is enough and may be even better to maintain good health. It depends in part on your lifestyle. Someone who spends hours in the hot sun working in the yard or running or biking, will likely need to bathe more often than someone who’s cool and indoors.

I
I hate lavender.. if ever there was an old person's smell..it's the smell of Lavender..

Old people in my youth, always used Lavender polish.. lavender floor cleaner..lavender perfume. I always associate lavender with old people
I didn't always like lavender but have really grown to like it in my older years. I don't wear it but a lot of my soaps and toilet paper are lavender scented. My favorite smells are patchouli, frankincense, and myrrh.

As a matter of fact I ordered some persimmon soap bars from Amazon today. Will let you know how it turns out...;)

You raise a good point, TeePee. My guess is that many people shower too often, thinking it's good for them. It's important to understand that the oils in one's skin are the body's first line of defense against invading microbes. When those oils are routinely washed off, some of the body's defenses are removed.

I had a buddy who took two showers every day, and he was always getting sick. That may be association, not causation. But it's trustworthy to say it's likely that only people who are perfuse perspirers or do manual labor require daily showering.

People can sponge bathe the obvious areas without eradicating all their natural skin immunoglobulins. But if you use lavender soap, be sure to stay away from HollyDolly...:)
