Seven years ago we watched our youngest daughter, son in law, and their one yr old baby leave for Atlanta. There was a new great job waiting for our son in law who had just received his PHD.
We were grateful that it was not across the country, but about seven hours away. Eight hours from his family.
They've added two more children there.

So, all these years back and forth we go. Holidays for them are spent traveling to different households. Us and his parents traveling to Atlanta.
A few years ago they realized this was not ideal with family so far away and no support close by. They started trying to find a home closer to here. However, that is hard to do from another state so they sort of gave it up.Then this stupid housing market.

Well today she called and said they are ripping the bandaid off, putting their house on the market, and moving up here. His mother has agreed they can stay at her house until they find a rental. She can stay with her common law husband and friend down the road. We will help and I'll be going back and forth to help out. I'm retired. I'm glad to do that.

It will be a rough road. He will try to work remotely and if it doesn't work he'll have to find another job. She home schools one child so now all will be in home school at least for a while. The baby is 15 months.

There will be pros and cons but this is something that we have all hoped for so we will weather the transition.

14 years ago my Daughter up sticks and started a business in Southern Spain. She worked every day of the week.. and so rarely had an opportunity to come to visit us here..so much to my husband's chagrin we spent our holiday every year going over to visit her ...

Finally 2 Christmases ago she came home, and now lives 70 miles from here.. but do I see her any more than when she was in Spain ?... nope... although she does ring more often...

Great news Hearlady! It's a good thing your SIL has a position that allows him to work remotely. And how nice for all of you that you no longer have to rack up all those miles to see each other.
