I just read an article about "ancestors"

Merriam-Webster defines ancestor as "one from whom a person is descended and who is usually more remote in the line of descent than a grandparent."

Dictionary.com says "a person from whom one is descended; forebear; progenitor."

So I guess it all depends on the definition chosen by the author, but in everyday language, people usually reserve "ancestor" for family members who preceded their parents or even their grandparents.

Assuming my parents were still living (they are not) I would not introduce them to someone by saying "these are my ancestors." I would say "these are my parents." [Likewise with my grandparents.]
