I Keep Telling People To Get Rid Of All Of Those Devices

I’m convinced phones are always listening to us. The relevant adverts that appear after a conversation is not coincidental.
I have heard a LOT of people say things they discussed showed up in ads on their devices.
Get an Ad Blocker... ! I never get any adverts on my phone
But the phone is still listening.

Alexa is part of my life now. Its simply too convenient not to use its services. I always talk to my Echo devices with the knowledge that some person somewhere could possibly be listening in or recording what I am saying. Do I care? Not really. Like about 95% of you out there, my life is generally too boring and too simplistic for anyone to much care what I say or do at home. "Alexa, treehouse on!"

..but it's dull stuff.. I don't care who listens to conversations in my house.. there's nothing of any interest to anyone else..nothing that is criminal, nothing that will change the world... tbh..if they were really listening intently.. there would be very little crime , because they'd be able to pinpoint all the planning and boasting that's going on in homes, bars, and businesses.. all over the world among the criminal fraternity

There is risk with any device - even something as low tech as an old answering machine, as I found out.
Years ago, when answering machines used mini cassette tapes, I was hanging out with a few friends at my place.
One of the guys in the group had a problem - he was a nice guy but he didn't understand that when he wore the same clothes for a 2nd day in summer without washing them, they would smell. Maybe he had a sinus problem & couldn't smell the odor. We were planning to discuss it with him as politely & gently as we could.
Another friend in our group called me & I put the machine on speaker so we could all chat together. Big mistake! I told the friend we were all hanging out, but I didn't tell her she was on speaker phone. She said, "Is the smelly one there, too?"
I felt terrible. We went to the guy's house the next day & sorta "fixed" it by discussing it with him. He seemed appreciative, but I'm sure he was hurt.

For those not tech savvy, beware of considerable exaggerated scare nonsense. That noted, when one doesn't understand be conservative. And yes Smart Speakers have security issues just like a smartphone with Mobile Data ON.

If one has smartphone Mobile Data OFF. The only way anything is being transmitted out is via one's Internet page selections. And that is primarily through Cookies that are limited by Internet IETF standards. Web searching with "Internet cookies" will provide many hits explaining how that has little to be concerned with. I almost never turn Mobile Data ON or GPS ON. Having phone service with popular carriers only transmits during active calls.
