Aside from the incisive commentary,
layful: scintillating conversations, and brain-teasing games, there are a few features I haven’t seen elsewhere and really like:

“Original Poster” designation – I really like this. In so many forums, you have to scroll and look to see who started the thread. Or you have to say “OP here” to let others know when you have more to say/add/clarify on page 4 or whatever.
The “Search this thread” feature. Helps a lot in the games.
Sensible moderating. The administration doesn’t beat people over the head, humiliate members, or announce that so-and-so has been banned (nah nah nah-nah nah). I've known of some forums where the mods clearly have serious 'issues' and lots of free time. Having said that, I would not mind if the moderation here was a bit more frequent and firm. There - I said it.
I also like the Ignore feature - it works really well. Click, poof! buh-bye.
(Many forums have it, but many don't or it's disabled.)
ETA - Years ago I was a member of a forum where there was a LOT of bickering/baiting. Strong profanity and name-calling was tolerated. Anyway, the owner and administrators asked for suggestions about how we felt the site could be improved. Several of us wanted an “ignore” feature, because we got tired of scrolling thru the garbage. WOW, did that create panic! Some people were REALLY upset that not everyone wanted to read their rants and childish flame wars. It was almost laughable. :rofl1: They never did put in an ignore feature….supposedly because of the software design or some such thing.
