I live in a very Senior friendly little city

We have so many things for the senior. We, of course have our senior center which many cities have but we have programs that go beyond that. We have a program that is administered by our fire dept. in which a special lockbox device is installed near your front door. It contains a key to the house and the only way into it is through the Fire Department. In case a person has a problem and cannot open the door, they can. Our police dept. has a program which one can sign up for (this is mostly for those who live alone) in which they call you every day at the agreed upon time, if you haven't told them you would be gone at that time, and you don't answer they come out and check on you. I am sure other cities have similar programs, tell us about it.
 

John, all of these services are free with the exception of the original installation of the key holder. Yes, it is a good idea.
 

Jim, we have what is called Citizens Patrol and is maned by volunteer retired men that use old retired police cars. Their job is to patrol a certain section and will check our homes while we are away, if so requested.

We we also have, in our community only, One Call Now. If someone in our neighborhood watch spots something suspicious, one call is called and then the entire community is called and warned if needed. It is also used for events at our clubhouse.
 
We have a similar thing here in the UK it's called Neighbourhood Watch, however my village doesn't have it as nothing ever happens here [crime-wise I mean.]It's a good idea though.
 
We have free bus travel here. Free healthcare, also hearing checks and sight checks, and free medication prescriptions. Money off the theatre/cinema and entrance to almost anything. Money off the hairdresser/barber.Most towns and villages have senior clubs too should you wish to join them [I don't.] The police will check all your doors/windows and advise on safety free of charge.
 
I live a little over 10 miles from our small town..On our road,(1 mile long) there are four of us couples that are retired..

Plus free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, checked annually, automatic delivery of bottled water if the supply fails, free annual electric blanket test, with free replacement of any that fail, priority repair of all utility failures and free "Medicalert, a small container in which you put all your medical details and prescriptions, which is always kept in the same place for everyone, top left compartment in the frig door, with a sticker to put on the front door to alert emergency crews that you have it.
 
Well, our apartment complex isn't a "Senior" type, so no benefits here. We are only in our mid-60's, so wouldn't need them anyway. There is a Senior Community somewhere around us, we see the people at our local grocery store down the street waiting on a Shuttle Bus to pick them up. In a number of years, we might seek out a Senior Community somewhere, but we also know they aren't cheap to live in.

As far as living where AZ does, it would be way to hot in the summer for us to live there. The Phoenix definitely gets warm in the summer.

We all have central air, air conditioned cars and it's never muggy. Summer is hot but the rest of the year....wonderful.

The phones would be ringing all the time if I lived there. I'm always doing something suspicious, or at least weird.:)

I am contemplating purchasing a lockbox for my home. I like the idea of having a key available for urgent entry, firefighters, ems, police, etc. Does anyone know of a lockbox made for this purpose? I have looked into Knox but they are pricey and to honest, kind of ugly.
