I Lost My First Grandchild 36 Years Ago Today

My first grandchild was stillborn. He was full term and the spitting image of my son.

His other grandmother and I waited together in the hospital, excited to meet our new grandson. Our hearts broke when we got the news. We never got to hold him or kiss him. Nothing we could say or do would ease the grief our children were feeling. We felt so helpless! I am still grappling with the fact that his mother, who was like a beloved daughter to me and finally became my DIL passed away 18 months ago. She paid tribute to her baby on Facebook every year. Sadly, her sweet. loving mother just passed yesterday! May they Rest in Paradise. My love for them is eternal.

Oh my, I'm so sorry, @OneEyedDiva . Condolences also for the loss of your DIL and her Mama. Those babies... I know we never forget. I lost a daughter to stillbirth in 1979 and not a day goes by that something doesn't remind me. But that's okay... I like keeping her memory alive.

My deepest condolences to you as well Kate! Losing a child and/or grandchild is the worst thing. I often pray for comfort and peace for parents and grandparents who have suffered that loss (even those I don't know personally). But I've come to know too many who have.
