I Made the Call...

I got a message from someone from HSUS (US Humane Society), the office that does dog fighting investigations. I returned the call today to give her as many details as I could. It was a bit scary though. I mean they guarantee anonymity, that on any records you're merely "a tip". But you're dealing with scary people...who might think of poisoning your pups if not worse in retribution.

The other day I came across this quote from Elie Wiesel
“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”

That gave me the strength to make the call. I mean you can live in fear and some people would just say "Hey it's none of your business, it's just a bunch of dumb bangers, they're just dogs, there goes the neighborhood". But no you have to care. Those guys are animals. You want to make money fighting? Man up and start some kind of fight club and beat on each other, you can make even higher bets and it's you getting hurt not some poor pup you're throwing in the ring.

She said they busted a big local group not too long ago. Maybe these guys are a spin off from them? The house has no number but they can look into seeing who owns the house or even if it's in foreclosure or something and they're just using the space. They can start taking plate numbers and the detectives will be watching them more closely. Won't be hard, the police station is two blocks away. Hope to see in the paper eventually that they made a case. You can't stop them all, but you do what you can.:(

That's really great you reported them. I hope they stop the dog fighting. I agree about the fight club and let the guys beat the crap out of each other instead of making dogs fight. They have no respect for those dogs when they make them fight. So, good going!! :)

You did the right thing and keep that in your thoughts. I believe in karma and those horrid people will get theirs in the end. Plus the dogs will be saved and hopefully rehabilitated and sent to loving family's. I would have done the same thing. ^.^

It just sickens me to see the videos of the condition those poor dogs end up in. There needs to be tougher legislation implemented into the justice system in regard to animal cruelty. These guys get off with easy fines and are right back to it the next day.

Good job, Fur.

You know the investigation might take a while. Try not to get too stressed-out in the meantime.

Kudos Fur for doing the right thing! Hope they bust those creeps and save those doggies. Be careful, don't talk too much about the report to neighbors, people have big mouths.

Yeah sigh, not a word to anybody. She said they're going to look into a zoning chart and find out if the house actually belongs to anyone. If it's technically a vacant building the police don't need a warrant to go in. Drugs, weapons, and/or game dog gear, and they might be able to shut them down.

Something that came to mind too. These guys are walking dogs around the neighborhood at all hours. I've given them different names in my head. One of the frequent walkers I'll call "Lil Jon". I used to think it odd. He'd be walking some pup or another down the street. If I passed them I'd ask if they were friendly.

The dog would be looking at me with a big smile and wagging stump. But the answer was always "Naw they ain't like that". Of course they ain't like that. You don't want them getting all waggy waggy when you're trying to make them mean you bastards. It's bully nature to welcome a friendly human. Even the Vick dogs welcomed their rescuers with open paws.

I will keep quiet and pray the rest for them doggies...that they get into a rescue...before an animal service that snuffs them out as "fighting dogs". My baby boy, remove his gonads and you have a lap baby.

Dog fighting is really low. When i was a kid there was local cock fighting, the people who ran it were highly invested in the gambling aspect of it but there also has to be some weird sickness behind it because you could bet on anything other than the suffering of animals.Well done in reporting the insanity.
