I miss my county fair.

The Sticks, Northeast PA.
With Covid, we haven't had much of a routine year. It dawned on me that there was no county fair this year. I love going to fairs. You gotta have a greasy, spicy sausage hoagie with fries. MMMMmmmm. There's the rides, the midway, the farmers' animals. the tents, filled with people selling everything known to mankind. Some of the things at the fair are downright weird- like the guy with a bunch of pigs that race around this little track every two hours. Do you love fairs? Which is better the little ones or the huge ones?

We've always had The Markham Fair .. on the small side. Tractor pulls, sulky races, pie contests, local performers.

Once upon a time, it was all farmland in that area, but there is a lot of building going on around it, as people are wanting to move out of the downtown core.
 
I love county fairs... I love to watch the shire horse, and the old steam engines having been shined and beautified by their owners and brought from goodness knows where else in the country for us to admire them. I love the dog shows, I love the vintage car shows.. the sales of guns and armoury and country clothing and horse livery, and car parphernalia .... the fairground & rides, ... and of course all the hot dogs, jacket potatoes, candy floss.

Oh Boy, Holly. Those are some great pictures.
 
Besides the Fall Fair in Markham, there is also The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair that takes place at the pavilions at our Exhibition grounds (CNE - Canadian National Exhibition).

Obviously, they aren't being held this winter, though in the past there were horse shows, sporting dog trials, livestock exhibitions, and so much more. A great learning experience for city kids.
 
I've always enjoyed the little fireman's field days, church fairs, 4 H fairs, etc...

The state fair in my area has moved from being an agricultural/industrial showcase to more of an amusement park cash cow and IMO has lost something in the process.

 
@fuzzybuddy funny you mention that. I was just thinking about county fairs a couple weeks ago. Something on TV brought back all the memories, sights, smells and all. I have not been to one in years, but when the time comes there is a fair, I think I may go.
 
Country fairs were awesome. There was food, rides, farm animals and loads of innocent entertainment for the entire family. Like Pinky says, it was a great learning experience and something that creating favourable memories.

Last October I took little Collin to the only Pumpkin Farm that was open; masks and social distancing required. Turns out it was at our county fairgrounds and they had 6 rides operating and 2 snack stands and 3 game booths open! We had a blast!

edit: We won a green and gold stuffed dragon at the dart-throw booth :)
