Ive never had a I Phone and never had a contract with any cell phone company. So Im thinking of getting the I Phone 5 S
I have an LG Venice cell and pay a monthly fee of $90 with Boost.

Question is are these 1-2 year contracts worth it?

Why am getting one? I donno, maybe its cause the kids here are always complaining "Papa, why are you still using that 5 year old phone? do you still have to wind it up?"

Kids. I have an old LG phone-shoot,can`t remember the model off the top of my head-Bantam maybe?? Anyway,it`s my old phone and I keep it active so the foster teens have a phone to use when they need one (which they always do,of course) Anyway, last week my girl asked me if I knew where the "ghetto phone" was. Ghetto phone?? Guess the two girls named it that because it`s not the latest of the latest. Oh well,so far none of the kids I`ve had in care ever had the use of a cell phone at all so they are lucky to have this one....and if they lose or break it,I`m not out any $$$$$.

I lose my present cell all the time in the house,I now have an app that locates that phone by gps with a screaming signal. Cats go crazy when it goes off.(g)

I have a Virgin cell phone made by LG. No camera etc. $35/mo. No contract. Buy a card at most stores, bring it home and go on line (or the phone itself)
to add $$ to the account. I've made clear calls from here to Quebec city. I love it; keep it in my shirt pocket when I'm out among 'em.
I DON'T CARE IF THE KIDS MAKE FUN OF IT OR NOT !

You might try Consumer Cellular. I saw their ad in AARP Bulletin back in 2013. I was ready to upgrade my flip phone to a smartphone. I have a Samsung Rugby (no contract). Plenty of talk, text, data for me. They have iphones. (There are various plans/levels but I paid $160 for the phone and $35/month). I kept my old phone number (they took care of transferring). Check it out consumercellular.com

I have just a plain old flip phone..My youngest daughter has the phone plan that has 5 phones on the contract. No cost to me...emoji-thumbs-up-150 (Custom).jpg

Cell phones are one of the biggest, and most successful "corporate fads" to come along in years. I am constantly amazed at how successful this fad has become in fleecing so many people out of an outrageous sum of money each month. Some people are paying upwards of $150 a month to be able to talk and text endlessly on these devices. We keep a contract on a basic TracFone to carry with us when we are away from the house..for emergencies, and in case the kids need to contact us. It costs about $7 a month, and we have at least 12 hours of unused call time built up. I have never understood this "magic" about walking around with a cell phone glued to the ear, as if it is an appendage of the hand.

My pet peeve is Apple. That corporation is fleecing people out of billions of dollars a year, and keeps their "official" corporate office in Ireland....so as to escape paying their fair share of corporate taxes....and their products are made by almost slave labor in China. If someone Gave me an Apple product, I would probably see how well it stands up to multiple hammer blows.

I just got iPHONE 5S WITH VERIZON. HAPPILY HAD A TRACFONE FOR YEARS BEFORE THAT, YES, $7 A MONTH AND MINUTES ROLLED OVR. THEN UNKNOWINGLY MOVED INTO AN AREA WITH BAD COVERAGE. CAR BROKE DOWN, NO SERVICE, HAD TO WALK TO A STORE TO CALL AAA. NOT A GOOD IDEA AT AGE 78. HAVE HAD AN IPAD FOR 2 YEARS SO PRETTY MUCH KNOW HOW TO OPERATE IT. NOT HAPPY WITHE THE DIFFERENCE IN MONTHLY FEES, BUT NOT GOING TO LOSE SLEEP OVER IT EITHER.

I have a LG,it is a smart phone, with Tracfone. Also, $7 a month. I have no idea what it does, and do not really care :) I have 9,873 minutes, 9,96600 minutes of data and 9,961 texts rolled over. Indicative of how often I use it. Like Geezerette, just for insurance, after being broken down on the side of the road for a few hours and the nearest telephone miles away.

I have had an iPhone since they first came out.
i would never have anything else.
i don't pay all that much for it....and it is worth every penny; much better as a sat nav than my sat nav too!
i have used it in New Zealand, South Africa, and Europe with very little extra cost.....I would not be without it.

Thanks will check that out. $400-500 for an I phone is ridiculous, my granddaughters friends in high school seem to all have those type phones.
No wonder kids are spoiled rotten today.

I have a new iphone, I got the 5 because I like the smaller phone, I am on my granddaughter's at&t plan (I pay them $10 per month for this privilege, which is what it cost them), her, her husband and the 3 kids all have iphones, after you've had the phone for a while (1 year, I think) you can upgrade the iphone to the latest model, it cost me $39 for the iphone 5.

This is just one of the plans that at&t has, but it makes it very nice when the new phones come out.

When I worked for the state, they gave us new I-phones every time one came out. I no sooner learned the features on the one I had and then another one would come out with a few new buttons and whistles. I really liked Siri.
