I pine for the female singers of the past....

Janice was absolutely galvanizing-- IMO the best white blues singer of all time.

We were on the same bill as she at the Atlantic City Pop Festival in 1968. That's a whole interesting story in itself. But all the acts socialized after their sets in the jockey's quarters, where there was a live feed from the stage. When Janis came on and started to sing, the whole room stopped what they were doing to listen.

Ultimately she was a tragic figure. But during the few years she was performing, there was nothing like it.

There was a period while Johnny Carson seemed to have her on almost every night. Then in the movie "Moonstruck" Cher's father sat and listened to it over and over while he thought about his mistress. Quite a big hit.
