Sudden G I problems last week , thought it might have been food poisoning because the lunch I had Mon seemed a little off. But Dr said some ingredient in the food might have irritated a spot that hadn’t acted up before. Was Rx some meds, doing clear liquids for 2-3 days then very very low fiber. Blah! Just called DD to come and get all the fresh fruits and veg I won’t be able to use now.

I thought the diagnosis of diverticulitis is made from a colonoscopy. No?

Pepper, yes, ideally from a scope but specialist outpatient appointments are several months off, and I hope not to have to end up in an ER to get it confirmed. Conditions are terrible in them here these days. If not bleeding or in critical condition, have to sit miserably on a hard chair for hours while addicts going through withdrawls screaming, and other people all ages coughing, other nasty things and trying to figure out how to sleep on the floor.
Dr Rx an antibiotic and anti-spasmodic. So we’ll go an “as if” plan and see what happens.

I have diverticulosis, apparently the step before diverticulitis. It has never given me a problem. Not supposed to eat things with seeds, but that has never been a problem.

I'm not sure what I have. But 2 or 3 years ago, I developed abdominal pains and toilet problems when I ate certain plant foods. First this one, then that.

Eventually I had to stop eating all grains, fruit, and vegetables. Now I live on meat, eggs, and some dairy products.

Some highly processed plant products (e.g., sauces) don't bother me. Sugar doesn't bother me. But I can't sit down and eat a serving of broccoli or whatever, whether raw or cooked.

As it turns out, I don't need fiber. My bowel movements are easier than they've ever been.

A couple of times, I've had very small servings of vegetables or pie at festive dinners. I've experienced some discomfort after.

I am somewhat reluctant to post this, as most people are horrified by my "unhealthy" diet. But it sure beats having abdominal pain every time I eat.

I think that it depends where it is, yes mainly it is found during
a colonoscopy and I have seen mine!

I have a friend who had it in her throat and for some reason she
had the sphincter at the top of gullet, below the larynx, she is still
around and one consultant said to her, "you are one of the lucky
ones, not many survive that operation".

It was found I believe because she suffered from acidity.

Mike.

Yes, it was noted after a colonoscopy that noted I had a diverted area. A year ago I had a wicked attack and was put on 2 heavy antibiotics for a week. I saw the improvement in a couple of days but took the whole dose. No suggestions to change diet.

NorthernLight, I’m not horrified at all! I admire & respect people who sincerely find their own paths to health, even if different from others’.

I hope you will go ahead and schedule a colonscopy when they can get you in, it is still a test that everyone needs to have done. I have a rare form of colitis that would not have been found without having it done and the doctor taking a biopsy even it there were no signs of the problem. Some things are only seen under a microscope.

Had it in spring 2019. Not due to usual intestinal reasons. A complication of splenic artery pseudoaneurysm at age 21 that has caused occasional retroperitoneal cavity issues issues my whole adult life that I am careful about . Was given strong antibiotics that quickly took care of it. Before modern medicine, older folks often died from it so not something to ignore as it could perforate the large intestine wall. I also have a left inguinal hernia as a result of it all that at some point, maybe in the fall I'll have mesh surgery.

As you are so active, you really should have that repaired to prevent further issues, but even after you do, you need to be careful about lifting things, My husband had it done about 3 times because he would not be careful, it is not a one time fix all the time.

I have Crohn's disease. The treatments are similar if you'd like to chat.

Don’t be reluctant if it works for you. I too follow your path and feel better than I have in years! I have better bowels than I have ever had before.

I was told that anyone who is overweight gets it, just a fact
of life, I suppose.

I see in my post above that I missed out the fact that my friend
had her sphincter removed, sorry for that.

Mike.

I've been diagnosed with it for decades. Flairs up a few times a year, a moderate pain on the right side, usually gone the next day, so I never call the doctor about it. I was advised at the time, when I was diagnosed, not to eat popcorn, but I still occasionally do (which sometimes does but usually does not aggravate the diverticulitis).

Good for you for posting anyway!..anyone horrified needs just to ignore it. What is healthy and good for one is not necessarily for all. You may have helped someone else.

I had Diverticulitis. Very painful. Luckily, they didn't have to cut any of my colon off. They treated it with IV bags of antibiotics for maybe 3-4 days. I was told the same thing. Don't eat anything with seeds and no corn on the cob. I love corn on the cob, so I still eat it.

I didn't know that! (About overweight and diverticulitis.)
I was told that during my last Colonoscopy 18 months ago,
the previous time the colon had little undulations, as it had
been for many years, but the last time, it looked like doorways
in a submarine and the doctor had trouble getting his camera
round corners.

He told me then that weight was the cause in this case.
