I received a 1099 statement for unemployment compensation with my address on it but someone else's name

Yes, I contacted the Pa Dept of Labor and Industry about it, and they do not want to worry about it, apparently ! I gave them the full name of the person who was using my address, and they say they cannot find the name in their database.

They can send a 1099 form with the name, then the name disappears? Wow.

I have received this same 1099 two years in a row.

I checked my credit report and everything is OK there.

What would you guys do? Just ignore it?

it's annoying having someone else use my address.

I just give them back to the mailman with "return to sender".

The key thing is does it have your Social Security number? If it does, you may have a problem with the IRS. If not, I would chuck it.

With all the fraud that happened with unemployment during the pandemic, this might be something the federal unemployment folks want to hear about. Lots of checks went out by direct deposit to fake names.

If it's 1099 with a "*** ** 1234" as a SS number, the organization which issued the 1099 will have their name, address and telephone on it. I guess if you wanted to, you could contact them.

Yes, the organization was the Pa Dept of Labor and Industry, and they act like they don't want to know anything about it. I did contact them by email. They said they needed to see the entire 1099. I told them I would send them a photocopy of the 1099 and asked where to mail it, and they never responded. I think they want me to scan it and email it, which I don't have the tech to do.
