I Refuse To Eat That...

I'm one of those who really likes 'cilantro' which is called 'Coriander' in the UK. I use it a lot in Asian cookery. There is a condition called Hyperosmia which gives rise to a heightened sense of smell / taste and this could possibly influence people's choice of foods.
I know it as cilantro when green and coriander for the deed pods which are delightful for bread baking.

Steamed eel. Had it once at a Japanese restaurant. It came in a red lacquered box with gold trim. Took the lid off and there was this black, slimy thing that looked like a snake, skin and all. Never again, lol.

I saw another thread asking about oyster stew. That got me thinking...what are some foods you absolutely refuse to eat?

You can include why if you like.

For me?

Clams and oysters. Here, eat this mucus. Ugh.

Oatmeal. Here, eat this vomit.

I don't know how people can eat that stuff.
can I assume that you've never actually tasted these food items? childish & illogical.

I don't like oysters but have tried them every which way. oyster stew, fried, baked, broiled, grilled... even raw. it's a flavor thing that I don't like.

Actually, I have tasted all these items. That's how I know I don't like them.

Thanks for the name calling, though.

Watermelon. The taste or just the smell, I have gotta leave.
Fried Salmon Patties my mom used to make. Not what Salmon is about.

Tough growing up in a Southern family and watching them with their faces deep in a slice of Watermelon.

Never met a Sea Creature I couldn't eat.

Yesterday I went to fry an egg. Took it out of the box cracked it and poured it into bowl but the yolk wouldn't break because there was an embryo chick in there. First time ever. o_O
My grandfather was an egg candler==so called bc they held the eggs in front of a candle to grade them back in the day--and we got lots of unusual eggs from him. Once an embryo and sometimes 3 yolks in one egg. Now of course they use some kind of fancy tech, no more egg candlers exist.

What's not to like about watermelon??
My mom also used to make salmon patties and sometimes now I do, love them!

I've always been allergic to watermelon(nobody believes me), just a tiny piece gives me a horrendous stomach ache.

Fried Salmon patties...yes, that's it, that is the reason I don't care for Salmon.

Eeel..particularly boiled eel or jellied eels is very popular here , especially in the old East end of London, where there's loads of Eel Pie & Mash cafes and restaurants.. *ugh*

My first trip alone to a US grocery store. All these "get me" things on the reach into ice cream isle. Now I know that a lip smacker is an oversized flavored hap stick not an ice cream pop. Have not touched water melon since.

Not a big lover of overly sour foods.

One restaurant served me extremely, harshly sour housemade pickles....alongside an Eggs Benedict with an otherwise lovely Hollandaise sauce! I was appalled, and have never returned.

One food I always swore I'd never eat is kimchi, because in my graduate school dorm some students would prepare it and the smell was just nauseating. But I've since learned that it's made with cabbage, which I love, so if I ever get the chance perhaps I will try it.

I'm not a kimchi expert at all, but from those I know who have been to Korea and enjoy that cuisine, it isn't the cabbage, or the massive doses or garlic, or even the hot peppers that are used in that dish.

It's the burying in the ground for a month or so (in a crock) to allow all that to rot that gives kimchi its special "flavor".

No thanks.

That's what always confused me: Where and when were these students burying it? It was a university dormitory, and I never noticed any disturbed ground near the building. 🤔

Guess I'll never know.
