I So Love British Wit

As an American, I find that British wit is a bit of an acquired taste, at least on this side of the pond. There are Americans who don't understand it, can't handle what to them is an accent, or simply don't find it funny. I find that listening to British comedy requires kind of a short process of "attunement," but after that I'm enjoying it immensely, and wanting more... 😸

We get reruns on Swedish TV of loads of Brit comedy series. Luckily all foreign language programmes have Swedish subtitles none of them are dubbed.

Favourites of mine include: Keeping up Appearances - "The lady of the house speaking", The Vicar of Dibley - don't you just love Alice's "I can't believe it's not butter" monologue, 'Allo 'Allo - "Listen carefully I shall say this only once", Fawlty Towers. - "He's from Barcelona" and Dad's Army - "They don't like it up 'em Mr. Mainwaring"
