I stepped out this morning...

... to get the mail and saw a small bird near our large window. It was on the ground and motionless. I picked it up and kind of compressed it's tiny chest and in a few seconds it twitched in my hand so I opened my hand and it shook it's head and flew off. I guess it was knocked out by flying into the window. I am now officially "the bird whisperer".

Im impressed! Good thing the bird came to life, otherwise you might have had to do mouth to beak resuscitation. :)

I did that once with a tiny bird. I tried but it died anyway. It's one thing in this world I cherish...animals od most kinds!

Thanks Terry...Little thing was warm and I could feel the tiny heartbeat...I was relieved when it could fly away.

We have a slow combustion wood burning heater ,one morning during summer I noticed something fluttering in the heater ( it has a glass door ) it was a bird ..we managed to get it out ..wrapped in a towel ..left it wrapped in the towel for a couple of minuites,to calm down , before taking it outside to let it go .....I don't think it stopped flying until it reached Adelaide ...170 Km away

Well done Jim :)..I like birds but I don't believe in caging them ..unless it's for their own protection

God bless you!:love_heart:

That bird may have made it withiyt help but there are feral cats in the neighborhood so I felt really good about it's recovery.

You reminded me about an incident on my back deck earlier this year. I have multiple bird feeders on two poles that sit about 20' from the house in our backyard. I feed the birds year round and especially in the winter. Anyway, we were having a big snow storm so I went out to the deck to clear it before the snow piled up too much. There, buried in about an inch of snow, totally covered, was a tiny sparrow, who had flown into the window on my porch. It was stunned, but given the rate of snowfall, it was quickly buried. I picked it up on my shovel and it moved it bit, but didn't fly off. I set it down gently on the deck railing where it stood for about a minute before finally recovering and flying off. I found another bird in the same vicinity, also covered, but as soon as I uncovered it the bird seemed to wake up and fly off. I'm not a huge fan of house sparrows for a number of reasons, but in this case I was glad I found these two.
