Seems like every morning for weeks & weeks I will turn on the TV to catch the news & it doesn't seem to matter what station and there is another Stabbing/Shooting/Bombing/Plane Crash/Hit & Run/Sink Hole/Floods/Tornado/Lying Politician/Child Beating/Wife Beating/Hurricane/Animal Abuse/New Cancer Scare/ On & On & On Maybe tomorrow I will turn on CNN and hear that something really good and positive is happening. Think that's likely?

Same here in Australia Lon , we call the news the Gloom and Doom show , We Also have two current affair shows on after the nightly news weekdays and they are just as gloomy ...

Have you ever heard the expression "No News is Good News"?

Sensationalism is alive and well, the network news pursues stories for their shocking entertainment value. I only watch enough to catch the weather and traffic reports.

I've had to restrain myself from harming the TV, the garbage makes me postal.

I go to Google news for the latest in World and local; many sources to choose from.

It's been like that for a long time. Every now and then you will see a feel good story. What gets me is almost every new report is introduced as 'Breaking News' even though there may not be much to the story. Just another way to sensationalize the news.

If you think about it. "breaking news" is a misnomer - if it's breaking, of course it's news.

It's like saying "ATM Machine" - "machine" is already part of "ATM", or "hot water heater".

I get a dose of good news stories daily on a site I visit; they keep the good news stories as a sticky at the top of current events. Fortunately there are plenty of good things going on, these kinds of stories just don't get as much promotion mainly because many people often relish the not so good news.

Man goes to the doctor's in the morning to get the results from his tests.

Doctor: "George, I have bad news, I have very bad news and I have good news. Which one do you want first?"

George: "Sigh. OK, Doc, let's get the bad news over with first."

Doctor: "Well, George, the bad news is that the tests came back and you have 24 hours to live. Sorry."

George: "24 HOURS TO LIVE? And that's just the "bad" news? If that's the bad news, what the hell is the very bad news?"

Doctor: "The test came back yesterday afternoon and I forgot to call you."

George: "Well, at least there are some good news. What's the good news?"

Doctor: "You see my new young receptionist out there?"

George: "Man, she's hot!!!"

Doctor: "Yeah, I'm sleeping with her."

Here is one reason you only see bad news. This was posted yesterday. Not one person has replied. If this policeman had tazed or hit this runner, posters would have been outraged. It would have had dozens of replies. The media gives viewers what they want.
