I was really miffed last evening

I don't like to turn it off because someone might try to call me with an important message. That happened when my uncle passed. My cousin called at 4 am to tell me.

that is what voice mail is for - they will leave a message and you would contact them first thing in morning.

Or you can set your phone to ring only from selected contacts- say, family members.

You said you were really angry about recieiving this call - if it is that much of a problem for you, there are solutions.

think sensibly about this Deb... How important can any call be to you ..?

What I mean is, with all due respect... .. what use would you be at 4am to a dead cousin?

In reality what emergency do you expect someone to call you about ?

You don't have living parents, siblings or nephews and nieces... ..so really an emergency can wait until 6am the following morning when you turn it back on
I was thinking the same thing. My sister and I were with my mother when she died in the wee small hours of the morning. We started the process of alerting our siblings and others around 9 AM. There was no point in ruining their night's sleep.

Most (all?) smart phones can be programmed for "quiet time." Mine is set from 10:30 PM - 7:30 AM. Between those hours, only those numbers I've designated as my emergency contact list will ring through. My emergency contact list of 16 numbers include only my children and their spouses, nearest neighbors, alarm company, a couple of siblings and two closest friends.
