I well remember December 7th 1941

I was at a football game in Paterson, New Jersey with my dad and cousin when they announced at 1 PM the attack on Pearl Harbor.

My in-laws were at their only pro-football game that day - in Washington, D.C. - Redskins vs Eagles. My MIL would talk about it. She said that during half time they used the PA system to call out various Generals and Admirals and other officials. No one seemed to care about that - it was Washington, after all. Then, during every break in play they called out more. They didn't announce it until the end so there wouldn't be panic. Redskins won, BTW. wow.

I was a boy and I remember that my big sister came in and said "the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor". I knew vaguely who the Japs were, but had no clue where Pearl Harbor was.

I wasn't born until right after the war, but my mother talked about her very vivid memory of that day. She and my dad were at church that morning in California and the pastor announced the attack on Pearl. They spent the rest of the day huddled around the radio.

Next time I talk to my parents I will ask them. I wasn't born until '46
