I went to a grief support group.

After I lost my wife, I joined an on line grief recovery site. This particular one had good hosts and was very helpful.
There is one called Widowed Village that is still active.

About 4 months after my wife died last year, I found an in-person, church based grief support group called GriefShare.com (they are nationwide). The facilitators were all people who had lost spouses, family, or friends so they knew what we were going through. The meetings were held once a week for 13 weeks. It was great therapy being around others who completely understood what I was going through. It did me a lot of good.

I had brief thoughts of going to grief group at hospital, after
death of wife 6yrs ago, but saw that I had to pay $$ to be
with them, thought what the "H" and skipped it.....

I personally found the general grief groups somewhat less helpful. If you find one specifically tailored to your loss, you stand a better chance of getting something out of it. I did a short one over the summer when I felt like I was stuck on something and it helped me move forward.

@hawkdon Too bad about the cost. Most are free. Sorry that was your experience.
