Today was exceptional.

I was the second car pulling up to a red light. The idiot in front of me stops half way through the intersection and almost a car length over the white line which indicates where you should stop.

I stopped off at an ice cream parlor coming back, and parked in the handicapped spot near the door was a big, fat super sized SUV with no handicapped placard or license plate.

I got the ice cream and came out to another idiot who parked another big, fat oversized SUV in an unmarked section rather than a lined one indicating where you should park and next to the first big, fat SUV so he would not have to walk far, and right up to my driver's side making getting in a chore.

They were out today in force.
 

We could shake our canes in the direction of SUVs and jacked up pickups all day long. :ROFLMAO:

I think of the push to electric cars with all of its inconveniences, limitations, and costs... to achieve dubious claims of a lower environmental impact. We might achieve all of that and more by getting the monster trucks off the road (electric, gas, or diesel) and planning trips better. I swear my neighbors make 4 trips every day in one car and 3 more in another.

I wonder what could be different to bring them out, maybe now that school is in session all the stay at home parents are out going wild, ha ha.

I had a similar experience last week, saw numerous questionable crazy traffic behaviors all in one trip to the store.
 
I drive one of the larger SUV’s, but I park as far away as possible from the entrance to the store, post office or whatever to allow for others to park close enough that they don’t contact my truck. I went to look at a video of the 2024 GMC Yukon XL, which I am considering buying, but I want to wait unti they get at least one in stock. At $111,000, I don’t know if I can justify that amount. That’s a lot of money.

I took my Buick Enclave to the dealer today because the seat air bag light was on. That needed replaced, along with an oil change and lube came to $550. I thought maybe it’s time to trade. I don’t know, but it’s something to think about.

The new SUV’s aren’t due in until mid to late November
 
I am not so worried about my car as it is 15 years old. It only has 40K miles on it and had 20K when I got it back in 09 from my husbands Aunts estate. Lets say I don't go far, even when I was working my job was just 2 miles from home.

I am always shocked at how people behave in parking lots. I am also shocked at how some of the retail stores have made parking spots smaller when the trucks and SUVs seem to be the most popular vehicles. In many locations it seems to be that they do not make the handicapped places as large as needed.

If someone is wheelchair bound they need to have the space available to put down a ramp for exit and entrance to their car. If you have an older person in your car they also need the extra space to exit the vehicle, get their balance and space to use a walker.

What about those families who provide extra care to a disabled child. It can take a while to get them out of the car, into strollers that have to be larger to accomodate the child, oxygen tanks. Most adults can handle an oxygen concentrator but many people can't use those.

Just goes to show how many of us able bodied do not see these problems until we are forced to do so in our own lives. I do know that I got a big wake up call when my husband got sick. No, we never parked before parked in a handicapped spot but I was surprised to see how many do when they had no need.

I am still in good health for the most part. I am not out and about a lot but when I am I do not mind parking aways from an entrance. I can use the exercise and to be truthful I do not think there are enough parking spaces for those that are disabled or have a hard time getting into a store. They may not qualify for disabled parking but it is clear they are having a hard time.

Why not park far away if you can do so?
 
I park farther out even though my car is small ...
i like the extra steps and frankly those very people who think they need to be in first spots regardless are so self absorbed they often do not look when pulling out etc...

i think many places with smaller spots here paint compact in space for a reason when the big SUV / trucks park there simply no one can open their doors with out dings and scratches.....
 
It doesn't matter what size or type the vehicle is, the idiot drivers are out there in all of them. Don't get me started on the crotch-rocket motorcycles weaving in & out of traffic.

I drive a full-size pick up & don't want to go smaller. I do so out of self-preservation. I've had a carload of teens broadside me when they blew through a 4-way stop. My old full-size truck was pushed through the intersection & into a yard on the other side of the road. My frame was bent & popped the door open where I took the hit. Had I been in my Buick Regal that day, his jeep would have been parked on top of me.

We now have an in-car video to record what happens when we drive. We have caught some pretty wild driving on it. Should we see an accident, I'll be more than happy to hand it over the investigation officer. I was lucky in that accident that a road crew witnessed the entire thing & gave good statements. I would like to be able to help someone else like I was helped.
