If anyone is interested in knowing about me

I was born in April 1952, an only child and never married. Dad passed in April 1983 at the age of 61 from renal cell carcinoma. Mom passed 2 days after Thanksgiving in 2006 after a prolonged battle with CHF and diabetes at age 76.

I now own their house which has proved to be a big headache for me in regard to maintenance and repairs. I live there with two cats I also inherited, Adam and Gus (brown tabbies with white paws and bibs).

I retired in September 2010 after working 38 years for the New York State Dept. Health doing a wide variety of diagnostic and analytical procedures (I won't bore you with technical details) and have had several research papers published.

I spend most of my time now doing volunteer work for the county, mainly with the home delivered meals program for the elderly and other shut-ins. I also attend 3 Bible studies a week, if I have the time and ambition and spend way too much time doing crossword puzzles, surfing the Internet, reading, and watching TV.

A few times a year I have lawn sales in an attempt to try to get rid of the house contents and get it down to a manageable quantity. I am really interested in getting an efficiency apartment or someplace where I don't have to worry about indoor and outdoor maintenance anymore. This has proven to be a cumbersome task since people are really holding onto their money these days.

Debodun, You are only about six months older than me, so you still have much to look forward to.
If you don't want the house, sell it, and there are businesses out there that would happliy have an estate sale for you. They will do an efficient job, and you get 50 to 70% of the profits. That would help you along your way. So, stay busy and enjoy your future. :gettowork:

Glad you're with us Debodun, and my condolences for the loss of your parents. If I were you, I'd be doing the same thing, sell the contents of the house, then try to sell the house itself and move into a smaller one, or an apartment. Good luck and welcome! :welcome:

Welcome Debodun! You are still young enough to enjoy your home. Adjust to the retired life and don't rush into decisions if you don't have to. Sounds like you have a handle on prayer...guidance will come. I hope you feel at home among us.
