If money was no object, what ONE THING would you buy YOURSELF

My wife and I never had lofty desires for stuff, so we have lived rather low key and been perfectly satisfied with what we have accomplished. I honestly don't know what we would do if money were no object. We are fine where we live and with what we have and our lifestyle. To me, it is a sad thing to always be looking for the next big thing and never be satisfied with what might well be a perfectly satisfactory life.

To be sure, what I am saying is not a justification for having sat back and done nothing. We both have travelled the world, completed our formal education, had good careers, been involved in community volunteer work, and are now into retirement with a reasonable cushion of savings. We just never lusted after what rich people have.

This was just a silly “what if” game, Tony. I “lust” after nothing either and am perfectly content with where we are and what we have. But I think the saddest thing in life is not to still have a dream somewhere inside of you. It’s all part of the journey.

A homestead including an off-grid cabin (lots of solar) surrounded by vegetable raised beds and a summer kitchen for canning the bounty. All wheelchair accessible given the likely progression of autoimmune unfun stuff. Also an orchard with fruit and nut trees and plenty of berry bushes.
Oh Annie, it sounds lovely! And you are surely the ambitious one 😊. I’m ready to sit and watch sun rises and sunsets and eat your canned goods in between 🥰

This has always been my way of thinking.

A life without dreams, is a life not worth living.

Or... when you reach a point and stage in life where you no longer have dreams, then life is over, you've reached the end.

My dream has always been to purchase a block of units/flats/apartments suitable for homeless women with children
Each unit would be simply furnished with a stove, fridge in the kitchen and air-con and in the laundry a washer and dryer
There would be built-in robes and beds in the bedrooms and it would be a safe place to live until they were on their feet
There are so many homeless women with children living in their cars....I was almost one of them many years ago
I know this sounds like a 'pipe dream' but I think it could work and I make plans but I still haven't won the lottery yet 😊

Oh howI miss Denver!! We lived there for 8 years and I adored it. That was back in the90’s and I haven’t been back since 🥲

It's changed a lot since the '90s. The population has grown by some 50% as well as all the new construction. You wouldn't recognize it now. I kind of preferred it when it was a cow town, but you can't stop progress. I guess this is progress.

I'm in a wheel chair. I can walk for short periods. But I can't walk into a store, and mosey around. I'd get an electric wheelchair This may sound like I could do this now, but if you have an electric wheel chair how do you get to the place where you can use it? Well, you need a van. Then the van has to be rigged with a lift, and motors, all kinds pf expense gadgets.. By the time you get all the auxiliary equipment, the van , the chair, etc., you are talking about a sizable hunk of change that I don't have.
In my area, there is a company called "Access." They take disabled people wherever they need to go in specially-equipped vans with lifts for wheelchairs, scooters, etc. Don't they have something similar where you are?

That is what I have heard. Did you...or do you...ever go to Little Bear in Ever Green? Oh my but we had some fun times there!!!! If that place is gone Or changed, I’d be broken hearted 😂

OK. As for having a dream, I have goals that I work on daily and give me reason to get out of bed. Having goals for personal achievements of intrinsic value, to me, is a healthy thing.

Also, nothing wrong with a "what if" game. However, probably since it is the beginning of the year when many people become somewhat introspective about themselves and where they are going in life (which often results in setting resolutions and/or goals for the coming year), the thread just got me thinking out loud. That is all. Making a thread, you may not always get the responses you want, but you will get people thinking and, in my mind anyway, that is a good thing. Sorry if you took offense to my post. It wasn't intended as such at all.

Your describing our place almost to a T.... Not off grid completely, but being restored to sustain off grid if needed.
Everything will be WC accessible...been there before...
No nut trees, but 4 varieties of grapes, some Fruit tree but an orchard next door. the shelve was prior to harvest this fall.
empties ready to fill

So for dreaming purposes.... 47 Ft Vagabond Sailboat....

I didn’t take offense Tony...just didn’t want you thinking I was an unhappy old lady 😂😂😂

@Aunt Marg, if I had that greenhouse I would live in it. Notice those cold frames in front with the raised glass, perfect for hardening off plants for the garden. My head is swimming with ideas but I guess in reality I have to be happy with my snake plant .
Thank you for pointing them out, Ruth.

I had never seen such before, so had no idea what they were for until you mentioned it.

I swear in a past life (if there is such a thing), I had a proper English garden, complete with a glass greenhouse.

Thanks win231. I haven't heard of "Access". Googling it brings up all kinds of things. I've used a service that picked me up, and drove me to places. But they cost $250 for 4 hours.
