If you could design the perfect restaurant for dining out

Everybody's taste in food, menu, decor is different so this would be a hard one. Don't you think???
Well, if you have the money, and you get to choose everything about it, then what do you think would make it perfect for you. There will always be others who will love it, and some may choose otherwise.

It's not hard to say what your ideal restaurant would be.
Mine would be either a German or Portuguese restaurant. Fairly plain decor, NO music.
For the German one, I would definitely serve proper Wiener schnitzel (made with veal) and Schwein haxen with sauerkraut and dark beer.
Portuguese - definitely have octopus and a good selection of seafood and wine from the Duoro region.

Love the Wiener Schnitzel. I would definitely patronize that one. Pass on the sauerkraut one. Never had Octopus, but would give it a try, and all the seafood dishes, along with the specialty wine. Yummm.

Oh well, my restaurant, for me, would serve French food in a an elegant formal setting with violinists traveling table to table to entertain. They'd never get me out of this place and that might become a problem for everyone involved. But I'd enjoy my stay there. ;)

I'd do a seafood restaurant and the main menu attraction would be my all-time favorite food, Bacon Wrapped Scallops. Second special menu item would be my second current favorite food, Boom Boom Shrimp served over home fries. Restaurant colors are sea/ocean colors, so blue and green with some spotches of sunset colors thrown around. Decor... anything to do with the beautiful ocean.

I remember Portuguese soup from Providence and often try to duplicate it. The sweet bread from a local Portuguese bakery was also very popular. We would pick up a few loaves to take along when visiting family in NY.

Ahhhh. Nice touch with the violinists playing some nice music of Paris. What's not to love there.

Mmmmm. Love, love, love it. Now I'm craving seafood.

The number one thing it would have is quiet, and that’s not because it’s empty. I want to be able to have a conversation with my table mates.

I’m having a terrible time deciding on the menu. Think I need a week having dinner in the main dining room on a cruise ship. Great selection and lots of variety. It’s been years since I’ve been on a cruise.

I hear you on the quiet thing. That's usually my number one dislike in restaurants. Too much noise to enjoy a relaxing dinner with great conversation. I'd rather have a nice meal at home, if that's the only choice.

Like the HuHot Mongolian Grill. You select the bowls of food you want, the juices you want add them and give to the round stone.
It cooks, the Chef puts it on a plate and you carry it to your table. The Waitress brings you your rice and the beverages. The Beef is
awful now. Don't go to Steak Restaurants anymore.

I always thought it would be interesting to have a restaurant that served "peasant food" from different countries. Beef stew (Boeuf Bourguignon) from France, seafood stew (Zuppa di Pesce) from Italy, etc. It would have clean lines of glass and stainless steel and feature art on the walls by living artists. Light jazz or classical for music.

The restaurant would be high up in the mountains overlooking the ocean (?) with big grand sized windows.

In a corner of the room classical music from a grand piano can be heard and there’s a small marble dance floor. Outside there’s patio dining.

The restaurant serves Greek and Mediterranean foods served on fancy white Royal Doulton China with shiny silver cutlery.

The best wines are served as well as a daily house special cocktail drink however any type of drink can be served by request.

At night there are tiny lights shining brightly on the bushes growing underneath the windows. There are also candles on every table.
It’s a very romantic and elegant setting.

Oddly enough I found pictures of such a restaurant

It sounds and looks absolutely perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. Not sure I could afford to dine there regularly, but I would definitely love to enjoy it at least once. Well done. That's a dining experience no one would soon forget.

I always loved the small Mom & Pop restaurants/truck stops we ate at as a kid. The best thing I remember were the homemade desserts.

I'd have American comfort food with some German food & maybe a limited bar. The main menu would have choices, but would be able to fit on one page (front & back). I'd have weekly specials & would change things as the seasons did. I'm not fond of never ending menus.

The front doors would have a vestibule so you didn't have cold weather blow into the restaurant. Comfortable size tables to hold all of your food with sturdy chairs. I want enough space between the tables so you aren't knocked into by other customers. The interior would be rustic & relaxing. It would have lighting that could be adjusted to a comfortable brightness. I don't like businesses whose lights are so bright they give you a headache.
