She seems to fit a new diagnosis of type 3 Diabetes which includes dementia, with a decreased ability to make judgements and personality changes. She may have been confused and frightened and not have even been sure who you were or what was going on. I'm so sorry she said those things to you, just a little boy.

That she might have been very disoriented due to diabetes at that moment takes some of the edge off that statement. Thanks for the insight. Much appreciated.

The trick would be to force or trick the pirate to reveal it or to somehow fit ourselves into the events, and then to secretly scuttle back to the present before the pirate becomes suspicious and unceremoniously skewers us with his saber.
