If You Own a Home?

@Colleen This would be the ideal time to sell your snowblower or are you waiting to see if your neighbour really will do your driveway.

I'm not sure how to sell it, to be honest. I listed something on Marketplace a while back but I got scammers so I haven't listed anything since. I'm sure he'll do it if needed. He's a nice young man and mulched the rest of the leaves in my yard after my husband died. He was doing his own yard and asked if I wanted him to do mine. He told me then that if we got snow that needed plowed he'd do my driveway. He has a plow that attaches to his truck and he owns a bowling alley so he has to make sure that's plowed.

I think I'm going to have a yard sale this spring so I'll set it out for sale then along with the lawn tractor.

I’ve used MP lots and only sell within the community. Some things don’t sell, some I get lots of responses. I put a fair price and always get cash. When they come to pick up, I have it in the garage and imply that DH is home, even if he isn’t. I have a table in there that I’ve set some things aside for garage sales. Sometimes I’ll ask if they’re interested in anything else; I’ve had a few extra sales that way.

It can be impossible to find someone to hire and you have to hope they’re trustworthy.
True, and I should've added to my above post (#24) that some people don't know how to access those kinds of services (for elderly, low income, etc.) or even in some cases that such services are even available.

I have kept up with needed repairs and renovations ever since I bought this house in '78. I try to do one major costly repair/renovation, etc. every year. Fortunately, my daughter, grandson and great grandson live with me so we all chip in in the every day upkeep. I have slowly, but surely been recovering my abilities for physical activity since my cancer diagnosis and radiation treatment in 2022. Unlike the other occasions, it hit me surprisingly hard this time, so I was much more weakened and took much longer to recover.

Yes, we maintain our house. It was built in 1999 and we bought it in 2006. While I was working we replaced the floors, two water heaters, two A/C units, the refrigerator and the door to the patio. We had extra vents installed upstairs to better circulate the A/C and heat. We had the kitchen, second bath and guest half bath remodeled so they look current. Our exterior is brick so it requires very little maintenance.

We're not doing nearly as much since I retired because we did most of it several years ago so we didn't have the cash outlay in retirement. We don't have the discretionary income these days and what we do have we mostly use for travel. It also goes toward annual property taxes and homeowners' insurance. Our master bath has a great finish-out but is very dated, with brown marble countertops, beige wallpaper and black sinks and toilet. It is pristine but needs updating, but I'd have to move out of the house while it is being redone.

I did recently hire a pressure washing company to remove some rust from the brick and an electrician to fix our Malibu lights. I still hire our landscaper to replace the flowers and plants twice a year.

I have to live in the house every day, so I want it to look good.

I feel so lucky that I live in a neighborhood where I'm close to at least 4 of my neighbors and can ask for recommendations. The firm that remodeled parts of our home, our landscaper and our electrician were all recommended by my neighbors and they have been great. One of my neighbors also recommended a gentleman that could help me find the best Medicare supplement plan. I quickly discovered when I moved to Texas that it is all about "networking".

How about giving the snow blower to the guy that plows your drive, maybe the mower also since he's helped with yard work. Consider it a barter of good will.

They're both brand new and I don't think a one-time mulching of my leaves warrants such a generous "barter"...haha. Besides....I need the $$$$.
