Back in the '70s when SNL was in its infancy, a lot of the skits were about being weird. They were geared towards the stoner crowd, mainly. Some of those skits were hilarious. Stoners were funny. Remember Cheech and Chong?
In the 2020s, pot and other recreational drugs are now legal, or at least decriminalized. What ever happened to stoners? It seems like it's cool to smoke pot but not to act like you're stoned. And there's no psychedelic music any more, either. I couldn't imagine getting stoned and listening to today's music. It sounds like it's computer generated.
Today's writers don't have stoners to write about. What's funny today? SNL does a lot of political skits, but most of them aren't funny. Politics back in the '70s wasn't funny, either, unless they made politicians pretend to be cool, which was funny because they were far from being cool.
