The 13 Most Prominent Features Of Ignorant People

Ignorant people are everywhere. We have all met them at some point in of our lives. School, work, family dinners... Spotting these people can be helpful for you to avoid them in a second. Next time you meet a person like this, accept the fact that they won't be able to understand you. Don't spend your precious time trying to talk sense into them.

1. For starters, we have to talk about their most significant feature! They know everything!

If you are straightforward about their inability to understand something, they'll get upset. One can not know everything, and you have to accept this fact!

Einstein once said that the most significant feature of intelligent people is that they are aware that there are things that they do not know.

7. Talking too much without thinking

Close, but this probably should have been titled ;

The 13 Most Prominent Features Of Stupid People

For me, ignorant means you may not know something, but, you have the opportunity to learn whatever it is you don't know.
Whenever one fails to take the time to learn something, they move straight to Stupid. JMHO

The creator of that article is incorrectly using the term as is increasingly being used in common conversation for the sake of insults. I sometime describe myself as ignorant of various things because it is not necessarily a behavioral negative unless there are other reasons making it so. For example, I am ignorant about what "The Kardasians" are about beyond what is on popular celebrity news site headlines. Don't ask me about them because I'll blurt out admitting total ignorance. For instance where the article misses is the first statement, "1. For starters, we have to talk about their most significant feature! They know everything!", is complaining about ignorant people that in addition don't understand they are so and are hardheaded, inflexible, and defensive when challenged.

Merriam-Webster: ignorant: resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence.

What is the difference between ignorant and uneducated?

Uneducated is not educated while ignorant is unknowledgeable or uneducated; characterized by ignorance. Unknowledgeable or uneducated; characterized by ignorance. He that doth not know those things which are of use for him to know, is but an ignorant man, whatever he may know besides.

Why is the word ignorant used as an insult?

Unfortunately, "ignorant" is often used incorrectly in politically charged discussions where the user simply doesn't have anything smart or factual left to say, and is simply resulting to insults because he or she is offended by statements made by his or her opponent.

I don't think anyone is ignorant. There are different levels of certain types of intelligence, that's all. I'm glad I feel this way because I have learned so much from people others would call ignorant and my own life is better for it.
So well put, Chic. You remind me of one of my favorite quotes by Thomas Carlyle:

“Every man is my superior in that I may learn from him.”

When people start calling others ignorant (i.e. lack of info) I believe some may be a little insecure and feel perhaps they are the ones who are ignorant..aka projecting...
Also if we take advantage of it, Google has been a tremendous help in educating us :D

It seems some readers completely looked over the fact that certain human traits are more visible to people with lower IQ's? Perhaps, the word ignorant or ignorance seems derogatory but ignorance is not a reflection on a person's character, ignorance is simply a reference to a lack of intelligence and comprehension.

How many of the prominent 13 items listed above have you noticed in people? Experience tells me, ignorant people know everything and will go to great lengths to defend themselves. Do not respect the existence of beings, their benefit is above all else. Littering is an example.

The 13 Most Prominent Features Of Ignorant People, coincidently exemplifies ignorant people's behavior.

Truthfully, I don't know where I am on the food chain hierarchy or how I am viewed by society or my peers. I think I am smart but not nearly as intelligent as I wish could be. I think intelligence is more important than brute force but the two must be a priority to maintain all around good heath. Ignorance is not stupidity, stupidity is consciously doing something when you should know better. Ignorance is not knowing better.

I believe Dave777 is correct in that there are some misconceptions. There is a difference in being uneducated, and intellectually deficient. What Mr. Ed describes might better understood as a "personality disorder".

11. Since they do not have something to be proud of, they become overly attached to ideologies, religions and nationalities.

It might be nice to consider what education can do about this. I wish our culture carried an Athenian appreciation of striving for arete. We could return to education for citizenship and reintroduce the concepts essential to democracy with liberty.

Arete (Greek: ἀρετή) is a concept in ancient Greek thought that, in its most basic sense, refers to "excellence" of any kind. The term may also mean "moral virtue".https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arete#:~:text=Arete%20(Greek%3A%20%E1%BC%80%CF%81%CE%B5%CF%84%CE%AE)%20is,also%20mean%20%22moral%20virtue%22.

Socrates would say the personality problem is not knowing how to do better. Aristotle built upon Socrates' concepts of the importance of knowledge and like Confucius argued the importance of developing habits for virtuous mind patterns and behaviors.

Christians have churches for transmitting their beliefs and lessons for being a good human. In England and the US, education was a secular way to transmit a culture built on an understanding of principles and virtues. Unfortunately, back in the day, we had a lot of illiteracy because having a job or helping the family was deemed more important than education.

When our nation became wealthy enough for children to stay in school we replaced that education with education for a technological society with unknown values and leave moral education to the church. Boy was that a mistake!

Webster Dictionary says "ignore" means

refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally.

"ance" is a suffix

-ance, -ancy suffix forming nouns. indicating an action, state or condition, or quality: hindrance, tenancy, resemblance Etymology: via Old French from Latin -antia; see -ancy.
It isn't what we are but what we do and can choose not to do.

Actually....moral education should come from the parents. It doesn't seem to, any more. The church and school is there to back it up.
