Our dog died.
My husband and I had her put to sleep as severe illness had set in and we couldn't let her suffer.

Since then, about a month ago, my already fragile health has deteriorated. My blood pressure rose so high I had to go to hospital. Now my well controlled vertigo has come back along with tinnitus.

I am seeking and getting proper medical attention but, what else can I do? I am just so low.
 

I sort of went into a tail spin when I had to euthanize my Oscar.
I guess the stress of knowing I was going to have to make that choice made
my blood sugar drop to 42, I had a severe attack of Vertigo and had to get
Physical Therapy along with the grieving.
It may sound so silly to people not attached to an animal as deep as some of
get but it's very real when it is that One very special pet.

I think your medical team can help you more than anyone. We are each different
and your Doctor can keep tabs on what is being effected.

I wish you the best in getting things back to normal and that it can be speedy

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and about your health problems.
I hope your doctor can find a remedy to alleviate your pains.
If you aren't ready to get another pup, perhaps you could volunteer in a shelter or foster a dog or babysit the neighbors dogs?

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I've had no loss of a pet or other set-back, but blood pressure is out of control. I have a struggle with worry and stress. The doctor knows this and has made a change in medications, but it can take time to prduce the desired results.

Make sure your medical team knows that your physical changes are (or could be) related to emotional roadblocks you're trying to overcome. Your treatment may depend on it.

I'm sorry you had to PTS you're beloved dog... it breaks your heart I know. My own daughter lost 2 of her beloved dogs on the same day 3 years ago, and she still can't talk about it. She did however have one dog remaining and she also got herself a new puppy Lenny....

I don't suggest you get a new dog now at this age, but you could short term foster if you're up for that. Many people depend on doggie foster parents to care for their pooches when they're in hopsital or away...

It's something that's desperately needed.. many people put off having essential surgery because they have no-one they can trust to care for their dogs... so you might be interested in looking into that !

I am so sorry for your loss and health spiral. Just know that getting a pet replacement is not a wrong thing…even if you consider your age and health a barrier. I have been shopping a replacement dog…and in my area there are literally thousands urgently seeking homes. Sending hugs and best wishes…

We understand; it's truly a very rough time for you.
Very sorry about your dear dog, and your health problems.

Perhaps there are other small ways that you can reach out more as well,
in addition to here, but including here too.

Think about any possible local contacts that you might be able to try.
For any kind of positive connections with others.
 
I've been a mess since my dog had to be put down this past July. But, she was loaded with cancer and there was no other choice. She was my loyal companion for 10 years and I miss her terribly.

I haven't any answers for you, Rose65, but if your health is being jeopardized by this loss, you should at least see a doctor. Some folks are happy getting another dog right away, I am not. We are all different.

I always get a new dog before one passes away when I know that it’s inevitable that one of my dogs is very sick. Because I’m 71 now I always adopt a senior.

So many animals are euthanized in shelters for lack of homes that even if you adopt a senior dog and it ends back up in the shelter after you die at least it had a decent life for a while. It may never get that chance if nobody adopts it. While I don’t think somebody older should get a puppy I don’t see a reason for anyone to stop adopting older animals.

I always have two dogs so that they have each other for company. Six weeks before my sweet Maltese Amy died I saw a little old black dog online that needed a home because her mom had died. She was going to be on her way to the shelter and was extremely timid, so didn’t do well in the shelter environment. I took her because I knew that Amy was not going to live very long.

Max liked the new dog Tessie right away. When I took her to the vet I found out she needed $2300 worth of vet care so I was really happy that I took her because she probably would’ve been euthanized at the shelter.
