I'm Glad I don't Live in Phoenix!

That swimming pool looks like it would feel good to be in in that heat, but.... The first time I went to Las Vegas, I went down to the pool at the hotel and took a dip. Everything was fine until I got out of the pool and felt like I was freezing to death....in 90-some-odd degrees. It felt like I had just bathed in rubbing alcohol.

I guess it was because the moisture was evaporating so fast off my skin that it made me feel cold. Strange feeling.

19 straight days of over 100° weather! While living in NYC, one summer we had about 5 straight days, and I thought that was bad.
It's 19 days of over 110° degrees. Phoenix often has long stretches of temps over 100°.

I know people who've moved from So Cal to Phoenix and love it there. They say if they lived in northern Minnesota there would be several months a year when they'd pretty much be marooned in their homes - and that Phoenix is the same, only it's due to heat rather than snow.
My aunt from CA moved to AZ and then back to CA because she said they couldn't take the heat in AZ so I guess it's more comfortable in San Diego and lack of humidity does not make a dif in extremely hot temps.
At this moment It's 97° where I live in So Cal, 116° in Phoenix, and @chic, it's 77° in San Diego. Your aunt was a wise woman.

I can't imagine why she and my uncle would move there knowing how hot it gets and they loved San Diego so why do this? At least they were able to cut their losses and move back.

They probably thought they could stand the heat. I knew a realtor who worked in Scottsdale. He referred to people who moved in and out of the area in less than a year as "Augusters" - meaning they left after a single August.

I believe the year was 2011 that we had 65 days of consecutive 100+ days...The entire months of July and August!!!

Dallas has hotfooted into the weather record books today (Sept. 13), according to the National Weather Service (NWS), with an unprecedented number of 100-degree-or-above days.

The mercury hit at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) 70 times this year, a new record for most 100 F days in a year for the city. The city tied its 1980 record of 69 days at 100 F yesterday.

Comparing NY to AZ is like comparing watermelon to bananas. When we lived in AZ 7% humidity was common. The newspaper every year had a contest, guess the day and time when it would hit 100 at Phoenix airport. They sell AC units (swamp coolers) for golf carts.
Like Florida, Arizona has a yearly influx of snowbirds, folks that got fed up with winter. Some elect to stay year round.

The Death Valley experience this summer ....

They don't show in this video, but there are restaurants and hotels in Death Valley.

I love looking at those pictures, they are so beautiful. Las Vegas, especially, has me fascinated, with its lights, its water displays but I keep wondering how will they feel a couple of years from now about having wasted all that water in the middle of a desert?

Here in the middle of Canada things are pretty cool. A couple of mornings ago, I had to wear my jacket when I went out for my daily walk. Like, I always like to say, "We're not sexy, but we're GOOD!

Often foggy San Francisco is surrounded on 3 sides by the chilly Pacific Ocean and SF Bay. Days ago were the last 3 Dead & Company final tour shows outside in the SF Giants baseball park. Absolutely perfect low 73F to 62F weather for a rowdy rocking Dead crowd. Nearby San Jose in a heat spell was above 90F during all those dates. Today at noon, I shot basketballs for an hour outside with temp 82F.

Lacking air conditioning, trying to sleep at night in above 80F temps is increasingly unpleasant. At 90F+ degree temperatures, trying to sleep is just miserable. I occasionally drive the 55 miles up to The City to urban street dance about northern shoreline areas where any time of year is usually fine for exercise and any athletic activity. Conversely, it is mentally difficult during summers to go outdoors for exercise about cities with hot weather and the below (Fattest) list reflects that.
