I'm in Pain All the Time

My conclusion, if you don't like the pain of getting old, just go to Switzerland at 75 and ask them to just end it all for you. I intend to live with the pain and just keep busy until it's all over. At 87 it won't be long now in any event. So far I'm enjoying every day playing chess and Civilization VI and talking to folks in an internet chat room and here. When busy, the pain disappears.

The song says, "The secret of Life is Enjoying the Passage of Time," but I haven't seen anyone over 80 sing it. :giggle:

Gabapentin did it for me...dosage over 100mg made me feel drunk, under 100mg didn't do anything for pain.

When I was on 300mg, I was literally bouncing off the walls and giggling about it.

Nope, I was given a low dose of Gabapentin and didn't notice any change in how I felt physically or mentally. I stopped using it because it didn't have any effect on me. Instead, I use alpha-lipoic acid.

What is alpha-lipoic acid?

Alpha-lipoic acid (also known as lipoic acid, thioctic acid, or ALA) is a vitamin-like compound involved in several mitochondrial complexes that help turn glucose into energy. Found in every cell in the body, it acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing damaging free radicals produced when the body turns food into energy. Evidence suggests that ALA may also help regenerate other antioxidants, including vitamins C and E [1].

How much alpha-lipoic acid should you take each day?

Alpha-lipoic acid doses range from 300-1200 mg/day (divided into 1-3 doses) for cholesterol control, diabetic neuropathy, and weight management [2]. Up to 1,200 mg/day appear to be safe and well-tolerated [2]. https://www.elo.health/articles/alpha-lipoic-acid-benefits/

All I know is I don't feel like someone is jabbing a needle in my finger when I use it. However, if I run out, I begin having that jabbing pain. A gal in the pool recommended it so you may not want to spend the money on it. I take several supplements and don't know if I am wasting my money or not. Placebos work excellently for me. :ROFLMAO:

I love the way you use your time, especially the Civilization game. I also enjoyed Age of Empires but haven't found it since I moved. I also like Pharaohs.

You might consider exercising. I am amazed that a few weeks of exercising has resolved the pain in my shoulder and I really like having stronger legs. These guys are great and demonstrate exercises for all the different joints, shoulders, knees, etc.

Sit and Be Fit is another great exercise program. Here are a few videos https://www.google.com/search?q=sit...12j0i512l3.7268j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Have you considered looking for a senior center with exercise programs? It can really help to have social interactions that can we enjoy because social interaction can motivate us to exercise.

Oregon in the US has a right-to-die law if a person is terminally ill. There are also books on this subject. Alzheimer's disease runs in my family and if I were sure I had it, I would consider that as my ticket out because we do not have a good care system for people who can not care for themselves and can't afford the very nice retirement living places. I plan to testify at our state legislature at the beginning of next year about the need for better living arrangements for low-income seniors.

Oh, so despite the pain you like being alive at 87, but are advising others to off themselves at 75. Who are you, the age police?

My wish for you: May You Live to 100! L'Chaim!
