I'm Just Getting Over A Covid Infection (Again!)

I first noticed symptoms 10 days ago, 4 days after attending my son's wedding. At first I thought maybe I had a mild case of the flu. In the middle of the night, my sleep was disturbed by strange pains in my legs. Two acetaminaphen pretty much took care of that (BTW the best by date was years ago). By the next day I felt the chest congestion, so my son picked up CVS Tussin DM. By that night my nose was pretty stuffed up so next day he stopped at CVS again and picked up a CVS decongestant pills, which are tiny so that I can swallow them. I was so glad to find them. I don't know why so many of the cold pills look like horse pills....I can't swallow them.

Really, COVID presented more like a head and chest cold this time. I was sick enough last time that my son had to take care of me and he was infected too. I had a fever but wasn't sick enough to be hospitalized. I was treated at an emergi-center. This time my highest temp was 99.5 which went down to 96.3 the next day. I lost my appetite, but not my sense of taste. All I wanted was soup, mostly Lipton packaged chicken noodle, and peanut butter. Consequently, I lost around 10 pounds, a welcomed effect.

I didn't do much coughing or sneezing. When I cough it's very hard for me to bring the phlegm up, so that only happened twice. After a few days it seemed I was getting better, then it got worse again, which prompted me to take the at home test (back to CVS for my poor son). I was surprised when it showed positive for COVID...I was more expecting Flu.

On day 7, the day after I tested, I texted my PCP and he got back to me within 20 minutes to set up a tele-med visit. As suspected, it was too late to get COVID medication and we ruled out other RXs due to contraindications with my complicated medication regimen and my unwillingness to take anything with codeine or prednisone in it. I told him the Tussin worked well, but I stopped taking it when I took the decongestant. I hate taking so much stuff. We decided I'd just continue with what I was doing. Doctor said I should no longer be infectious as of today. My son's test was negative. Today was the first day I felt like sitting at the computer since I got sick...so here I am.

I'm glad to hear it has not been as serious as the first time around. I had the first strain before the Vaccines were available and the symptoms were horrible. I had chest congestion and a terrible, wet cough for months afterward. I've been jabbed ever since as recommended. I've had it twice since and each time it has been milder.

Feel better, my friend!

Some of us are so susceptible to that darned virus. If I don't get it twice a year something is wrong. It sounds like you're like me, @OneEyedDiva, a Covid magnet.

I've never run a fever but my O2 sats drop, BP goes up. And I sleep and sleep and sleep. The first few days my brain is all futzed up and I don't recognize anything is wrong with me. Then the sleep begins. Bingo! Contracted Covid again.

Me too. Had it 3 times. So far this year I am doing good. I wear my KN95 at work and any time I have to go out in public now because of my lungs.

Get well soon and have long life and happiness. Speaking about those tiny pills I always wonder why they still make pills round so us old folks would need to get on our hands and knees looking for one that rolled out the front or back door. A square pill would be great. Another thing I hate is having store shelves below sea level, once again forcing us to get on our hands and knees to look at a price tag that we still couldn't read if we were completely upright. :)

The first time I contracted it, I only went out when I absolutely had to. Wore the mask, used sanitizer and got it anyway.
I hafta wear a kn95 to keep from getting it. I didn't even vax this year because they said the new strain was vax resistant. I may still get covid yet but, I hope not.

I think we all got it the first time regardless because it was so strong. Now that it's lessened in severity I think the masks are more helpful now from what I'm seeing at work.

I hope nobody uses ivermectin for covid since it's not been approved for such.
I know multiple people who took Ivermectin during COVID, including two of my neighbors. Both got well pretty fast. I wasn't ready to take the plunge but got through it. I've really researched it since, ran into people who used it for COVID, including at Church. Do your own research, talk to others. I listen to Dr. Suneel Dhand, Dr. Berg & Dr. Gundry. Big Pharma is not your friend, it has it's place but is a very scary organization now.

I am so glad you are feeling better.

I feel your pain. I had the first 2 shots and then 2 boosters. After each injection I became ill, so I finally gave up getting the boosters. I did, however, get COVID 3 times.
Wow.... 3 times! Too bad the boosters made you sick instead of keeping you from getting sick! I finally decided to get the COVID vacine after my DIL died from the disease, but never got a booster.
Glad that you’re on the mend, Diva. I was expecting a write up about your son’s wedding? Did you postpone because you didn’t have the energy or did I miss it.
No you didn't miss it Jules; I plan on posting about the wedding this weekend. The day after the wedding, I was more tired than I can remember because I danced most of the night, plus had a busy few days before the wedding. The next two days (Sun & Mon) I had laundry to catch up on and washed in the apartment, a tiring process, albeit convenient. By midnight Tuesday, I was feeling the symptoms of COVID. I started feeling unwell, had no energy at all and I did a lot of sleeping. I have to compose the thread and choose pictures to use, something my brain couldn't handle earlier in the week.

I can't believe you had symptoms for months! Sounds terrible Doug! Thank God your subsequent infections were milder. God willing, you will not get it again.

Mat, thank you so much for giving me my big laugh of the day (last night). I know about dropping those little pills. I used to have to do a thorough search because of my cat. But I came to realize, if she finds a pill she won't try to eat it...she'll just play with it. And how to they roll so far from where they fall?! You are right...square pills would be better. :ROFLMAO:

Like you, I swear by the KN95 masks, but got complacent once COVID became endemic and had stopped wearing them. I'm going to start wearing them more regularly now, especially around groups of people.

I wouldn't say I'm a COVID magnet Robin. Covid surfaced in 2020...really a little before that, but the public wasn't made aware. I was attending a senior center at the time and was taking public transportation to doctor appointments, to the waterfront park and sometimes Atlantic City. I didn't get COVID until 2024 and I was infected by my son, who brought it home after attending a convention in Chicago. Don't know if he caught it at the convention or on the plane. Like you, I did a lot of sleeping during the first few days of the infection. Lets hope you don't get COVID again!

To Everyone who showed concern, reacted and commented....I thank you so muchā£ļø
