First of all, thank you for indulging me.

So I retired early at 63, almost 3 years ago, due to my company laying off over 50% of its staff due to Covid. I decided not to go back into the job market. At the same time, my partner, who had been at home for 5 years, chose to go back to work so we could have health insurance.

He started as a salesperson in his job at a non-profit organization. He works for an organization that supports victims of domestic abuse, and they also have retail store. He was promoted to assistant manager and now manager at that store. He used his retail background to re-organize the store and make it more like a true retail environment. Since many domestic abuse victims take their children with them, he also set up a kid's play area.

Today was the ribbon-cutting for the re-launched store, with members of the board attending. He invited me to attend. I had the chance to meet many of his employees who were just exuberant and told me how much they loved him. I watched the board members speak and recognize him for his accomplishments. I watched him speak to the group and acknowledge his employees. He teared up when he shared a story about an elderly lady that had been referred to the organization by her pastor. I couldn't have been more proud. It made my day.

I'm so proud of my partner. I used to manage a team of salespeople and spoke frequently in public. Now it is his time to carry on the legacy. Today just reinforced why we have been together for 32 years.

Again, thank you for letting me be self-indulgent.

He sounds like a very wise and kind man. I'd like to congratulate him on his success, I can see why people really love him. Hugs for both of you, you are blessed to have each other. 💙

I was struck by the line...Go back to work so we could have health insurance. To a Canadian that sounds so very wrong. JimB.
It should sound very wrong to someone living in the US as well, but unfortunately it isn't in the cards.

It's very uplifting, to read about what your dear one is doing, to positively impact many other people's lives, in the community. 🤩

It's great to hear about. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
