I'm ready to exit my current life, which isn't that bad.

Typical 4-6 feet and 8-10 foot drifts

Not this year

Couple feet

Not gonna be a good summer

One spark.....WHOOSH!
Sorry for going off-topic, but....

We're getting tons of snow in the Sierras, the heaviest snowfall since 1946, they're saying.

Skiers are loving it now, the rest of Calif will love it come wildfire season.

Yeah, I'm not really concerned about the ID thing. I can't remember the last time I showed mine to anyone.
And I'm not talking about living deep in the woods. Just a small town where the basic amenities are withing walking distance and the houses aren't within farting distance. I don't carry money anymore. I use a debit card and my bank pays my utilities. I'm just talking about simplifying things.

I'll have a look into that, but not in the mountains or forests.
Thanks.
I live in Dallas and there are many outlying areas that are rural and secluded. Closer to Austin is The Hill Country, which I personally like. I'm sure there are plenty of small towns there. You wouldn't have to endure much cold weather but the heat in summer in Texas can be pretty brutal.

I was thinking of any belligerent powers that be that could lead us into WW3. We could start with *honest* judges regarding land disputes (I was not thinking of Russia. I had Turkey, China, Iran and others in mind).
Thanks, that puts the comments in context...I agree real scary stuff! I am in my 70's and is seems we have been facing something like this my whole lifetime. Cuba, Soviet Union, China, Russia, etc....

The 'I want to be alone' quote

"This famous C.S. Bull Portrait of Greta Garbo, used to promote Mata Hari in 1931, is one of the most recognised ‘Garbo’ images. With hands placed so as to frame her face, hair magnificently pulled back and her eyes looking down, she is shown in her own world, distant, dignified, a true goddess in her solitude….. alone."

"Garbo's most famous quote was ”I want to be alone”. In 2005, the American Film Institute voted it to be the 30th most memorable movie quote of all time. It is derived from the 1932 film Grand Hotel in which she famously said, “I want to be alone” emphasized immediately by “I just want to be alone.” Garbo seemed to enjoy this gentle self-mockery as did both the press and her studio, MGM."

I lived in a city half of my life and now live in an isolated environment in NYS.
And the photo above of someone using a snowblower reminded me of the many days in the past when we would get that kind of snow, due to heavy drifts. The longest snow blower job I ever had took me over 1 1/2 hours to clear my driveway- and I loved it-but my point is, where ever we chose to move to, the weather should be a big consideration.

But the local dairy farmer however can scope out my driveway very fast these days and ,since I own the land across the road too, he can dump th snow there.

Personally I would worry about my bank account, to make sure my retirement income is in it every month.
And I would never want to live anywhere that has tornadoes, or earthquakes, or mud slides.

I have to drive over 20 miles to get fresh meat and produce , and it took me time to even get a landline phone here because I was technically at the end of the line, and they said I could get a phone in my barn as soon as we set up water access to it- but that phone would have to be in a different area code, meaning in those days, pre-cell phones I would have to pay a long distance fee to call most of my neighbors .

Visual Brian, you did say your "current life isnt that bad."

I bet many of us here would say that too, and believe me, moving to any other locale can be a BIG, stressful and costly PITA because we can always encounter things about a new environment ,that we really don't seem to like.

MarkD made great point:
"You either have a lot more energy than I have or else are a lot more bored. I hope never to move again. Moving is so much work and bother. In the end it will still be you living wherever you go and I don’t think any of those things will make you happy if you’re not already."

I sure agree because ,even if we change our environment, the one thing that won't change is our inner self, and our needs, unless we are very adaptable.

And also,I don't know how old you are, but for me, and for many seniors I know, we HATE too much 'change'.

Thanks for those responses. The more you relate about your own lives, areas and conditions, the more I realize that I already have a lot of what I'm looking for. I said at the start it "isn't that bad" and I meant it. I guess I'm just getting itchy again and need to stop to consider things a little more.

So US/Canada citizens who live and work in Canada pay no taxes in either country?
No. They pay taxes to the country where they live and work. I was pointing out that of all the nations on earth, the USA is one of two that tax their citizen's income regardless of where they live and work in any part of the world. Canada and the USA have a tax treaty agreement. Jimb.

That is good news. There was a lot of speculation about whether any of it would stick. I still wonder if it will form a pack that will hold and then slow but steadily release water.

Right, it's about your self sufficient life in the woods right?
From the ‘Opening Post’ it sounded like he was looking for ideas on how to get away from it all, and maybe thought going off grid would be easier. 🤓

As members posted their opinions, the OP seemed to have changed his mind. I don’t think he thought this through.

If it is something he wants, it takes a bit of planning

All things considered, maybe you'll
hang around and make some
new friends, here.

That's actually not a bad idea. If I get another itch, it'll be easy to move on.
There is a huge community of regular folks who live in RVs because they WANT to and not because they have to. Google organizations such as Escapes (SKP) , Family Motor Coach and numerous ones for various singles organizations.
