I'm tired of trying to relate to people three decades younger

Hello, I'm new here. I am down to socializing with my sons and their families. Grandkids are nice but the adults look at me like I have two heads. Anyway, I am only 66. The great grandparents in my sons' wives' families are my age. They are also treated like the ancients. What's with that? Was wondering if that happens to anyone else here. I keep hearing that 60 is the new 40. Doesn't seem to be the case where I live. Maybe it's just a rural thing.

Been reading some of the posts. Seems like the people here are sweet. I can do with some of that.:)

Welcome from New Jersey. I'm 74 and my Grand kids are still very young. Although one just asked me if I have an X Box. I didn't even know what that was. Usually I get remarks from my kids about how I'm so electronically impaired and how I don't have a dish washer but it is all in fun and I don't take it to heart. We are a close family and get together often. I don't get offended by their remarks. Sometimes when I'm in there home I ask them why everything they own has a battery in it. All in good fun.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Ruth n Jersey my son had an Xbox but had no idea how to turn it on. I have a dishwasher, but never use it anymore. I am on a fixed income so I have to save on electricity. Even heat water on the gas stove in a big kettle and turn off the water heater. Yeah time marches on doesn't it and waits for no one. My kids just shake their heads because I can't put pictures of myself on Snapchat wearing cat ears and whiskers. Ah me.

WELCOME!

If you're treated like an old fogey, maybe you need to examine how you act when you're around your kids. I say this with all due respect. I'm also 66, and never feel like I'm being dissed by ageist-leaning family members. I stay up on the latest tech "stuff" because it genuinely interests me. I can see how those who don't might have some problems relating to younger generations.

LOL...My daughter is 60 and when I call her with a problem she talks to me like I am a little kid. Role reversal I guess. LOL

Hypochondriac gets it. Why would anyone automatically assume it has anything to do with technology? Anyway. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Maybe THAT'S why some may think your problem may have something to do with technology!
