Imagine you have a time machine ...

... and can travel through time.

But let limit it between 1800 and today. Not that you write "I always liked the ancient Romans or the ancient Greeks, or even ancient Egypt."
And you have to stay locally where you live, no other locations possible.

I'll tell you what I would choose and why.

As a German I'd choose the year 1872. The Franco-Prussian War is over.
Franco-Prussian War - Wikipedia

"French reparations were one of the triggers of the German boom during the Gründerzeit period. French payments gave the German capital market additional impetus and increased the willingness of the middle classes to invest. Between 1871 and 1873, around 928 stock corporations were established. The railway, steel, coal, and mechanical engineering industries benefited in particular."

Thus if I had the possibility to be a factory owner in one of these branches, I'd choose it.

Why? WWI is still 42 years ahead. I just like the period between 1872 and 1914.

Some of you may know the movie "A Promise" (2013) after a novel by the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. Alan Rickman plays a factory owner. Something like this would suit me. Of course not dying because of heart problems as in this movie.

Shortly after WW II ended. Would have been fun to watch my parents get married, when they were very happy.

The town I live in was a popular winter destination in the late 1800s.

Winter-weary Northerners would travel by train down to Jacksonville and then take a boat down the St. Johns River to Sanford, where they'd "take the air" and while away the winter playing croquet on the lawn of the hotel and wander along the waterfront.

It would have been a sight to see.
