In addition to the hurricanes, forest fires, and flooding; we now have a solar flare headed this way

It almost seems like maybe those doomsday prophets might have known what they were talking about, predicting that the solar eclipse would usher in all kinds of disasters for the United States.
Besides all of the flooding in Texas, and more hurricanes headed towards us, we have also had the western part of the United States (and parts of Canada) that are fighting raging forest fires, and have been for most of the summer.
Out in Yellowstone, the caldera is heating up so much that parts of the pavement on the roads are cracking and melting. There have been earthquake swarms under the caldera, as well as in Southern Idaho, which has a caldera that is even larger than the Yellowstone one.
Now, it appears that we could have even more earthquakes, and possibly problems with the power grid, because the sun just sent out an earth-facing solar flare, and it has the potential to become an X-flare, which might be really dangerous.
Hopefully, it will miss the earth, and we won't have more disasters to contend with; but if you live in an earthquake-prone area, it might be good to be prepared there, too.

This has been an awful year for natural disasters, and it seems to be far from over. The primary danger from a solar flare would be major damage to the electrical grid. If such a flare hit the globe squarely, it would quickly overload huge numbers of power stations and transformers, and plunge the nation into a massive and lengthy power loss. It's a real hassle when we lose power for more than a couple of hours...imagine what would happen if our electrical grid went down for weeks or months....no lights, no heat, no AC, no TV, no Internet, no cell phones....people would quickly go nuts, and anarchy would take over.

One of the events that are supposed to happen when we have the strong solar flares is earthquakes. We have already been having more earthquakes and swarms than usual; but this morning there was an 8.1-8.4 quake in Mexico, which they are saying is the worst one in many, many years.
Japan just had another bad one a few days ago, so it is quite possible that the solar flares are helping to trigger these earthquakes.

Lots of things are possible. But coincidences can lead to false conclusions. Magnitude 8 earthquakes occur about once a year regardless of sunspots. If you make enough predictions, some of them are bound to come true. There was a TV show in the 50's where a guy ( whose name escapes me now ) made predictions. He became very well known, because some of them happened. People ignored the majority that didn't.

If there were a link between sunspots or solar flares and earthquakes, data would show it. I'd have to see some data to be convinced. Here is a link to a good article with data that shows they don't.

There are people who take some real data, distort it, and publish it. It's called pseudoscience, and they make money spreading it.
