Great photo. How did you get so close?
Actually, I took the pic through the window; I was afraid of going out there, scaring it away. Last summer, there was a flock of 13 wild turkeys periodically roaming the neighborhood. I don't know if these 2 are all that's left of the 13 or not (I think they are).Great photo. How did you get so close?
I can't tell either, haven't been able to get that close. One of the 13 we saw a lot last summer was limping but haven't seen it in the last few months.Ahhhh! THIS is my kinda thread
I can’t tell — is that a feather hanging on the other side? If so, there was some sort of altercation between two turkeys. I’ve seen similar once or twice on my farm![]()
Your right that it's feathers, but it's the gobbler's beard which grows at the rate of 3-5"/year.Ahhhh! THIS is my kinda thread

You have an impressive backyard !Picture is in my backyard taken about a month ago. This big bull needs to rest and eat to recuperate from the 2 1/2 month long rut. He's gaunt!!! He had a heard of about 125 animals to tend to which obviously required tremendous energy.
Thanks, the 1000's of acres belong to the HOA and then lead up to National Forest. And yeah I'd love to have that rack on my wall, the silver tipped antlers are stunning, but wifey says no way.You have an impressive backyard !
The Big Guy’s been around awhile. I hope nobody wants that rack on their wall

YAY Mrs. Againstthegrain! I’m on her side of the fenceThanks, the 1000's of acres belong to the HOA and then lead up to National Forest. And yeah I'd love to have that rack on my wall, the silver tipped antlers are stunning, but wifey says no way.
Not sure if you’re talking to me or officerripley but…..i can’t do bird feeders because of the bears. I did have a black bear a couple of years ago that mistook one of the solar lights for a bird feeder (yes i could read his mind)I love wild turkeys. Looks like you have bird feeders so I'm sure they found some snack food.
Beautiful setting BTW!
Well she does let me leave some antlers in the corner of the tv room, just no skulls. Yup the land is part of the homeowners association. It's easy to follow the simple rules we have, we aren't micro managed although the past 4 years they have been a little light on some enforcement. The recent additions to town haven't quite shaken the bad habits they learned elsewhere.YAY Mrs. Againstthegrain! I’m on her side of the fence
An HOA!?!? That surely must mean something other than homeowners association in your part of the world.
We do have a lawn mowing service but they unfortunately don't have time to do much more than that; the gal who owns & runs the service has a hard time finding help (a lot of businesses around here are having the same trouble). So Huzz (and me a little) are having to do more than I think we should (especially him). So that's one of the reasons I'd like to move to a smaller place.Good thing for him, he didn't show up before Thanksgiving.Wow..you've got a lot of space back there Officer. I hope you aren't the one who has to tend to it.
One of the joys of where I live is waking up to deer munching on grass and a squirrel running around.. That's such a comforting scene. It's cool having all these critters visiting me.
The only ones I don't like are mice in my house, but some are cute little things.

@Lizzie00 up here in CT we can only fill our feeders in the winter as (we hope) the black bears we have running amok are hibernating. Our condo community backs up to some woods and they have been seen raiding some of the dumpsters back there. Not sure if you’re talking to me or officerripley but…..i can’t do bird feeders because of the bears.
