In the market for a new wristwatch problem. Looking for ideas.

Nobody really needs a watch anymore.

I think watches have become more of a status symbol or affectation. Having said that, a fancy watch on a sharply dressed man or woman can catch your eye for sure.

Interesting. You're the second person I've ever run into that said that about wearing wrist watches.
The other person is my younger brother. Wrist watches would stop working when he wore them.
Mike was into pocket watches for a "time". Didn't seem to have a problem with those I don't think.

I won't even hold someone's watch for them. Tell him to look for a watch that has "anti-magnetic" listed in its qualities, if he cares to wear them. There are lots of other things that are problematic. Are there any other things he has mentioned?

Been a long time since Mike fooled with such things. In 1975, my little brother got married.
His wife had been raised in the Pentecostal church and Mike became involved there.
Soon, my brother was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal church.
They don't wear watches, jewellery and stuff. No TV and such. Mike stopped having and using such things.
Mike and I were raised Baptist, so Pentecostal was kind of a big departure or a closer step depending on point of view I guess.
I've never heard him preach. I've been to funeral services and weddings he's conducted,
But never to a service in the Pentecostal church. Over the years, he was pastor of churches in three different states.
Mike is retired now. We've always been brothers, but don't and never have discussed religion.
We each respect the others spiritual understanding.

I never asked Mike about other "unusual" things he might have encountered besides the watch thing. Perhaps he has. Dunno

EDIT: We grew up in a rural area and drank well water that had a high iron content. Maybe that had something to do with it (?)
First time I donated blood, the nurse checked to see if I was anemic. She said I had enough iron in my blood for three people.

TMI and way off topic ... sorry.

Personally I like a watch that does a legible day and date in addition to the time, and at least in a man‘s watch a titanium case and band — strong and a lot lighter than steel.

I replaced the leather strap on my watch every few years because they showed wear and looked bad. If a new watch doesn’t come with a leather strap just have one put on.

Chic, if it’s a high-end watch, I’d contact the manufacturer and ask about repair services. It might be worth it to mail it to them and get an estimate. Even if it’s expensive it’s probably worth it. Don’t go to the local chain jewellery stores. They’re just going to do the same thing so why pay for a middle-man.

There’re are lots of watch collectors who might be able to help you find a repair service. I’m not sure where to find them. Try Reddit or Facebook or similar.

Thinking about this, I’d try the collectors first.
