I actually got hit by one of those in Spain a couple of years ago.

We were walking on the pavement in the main street just as it got dark, but all the stores and restaurants still open so they road is very light, and many people wandering...and suddenly I felt like I'd been hit by a truck from behind. I fell to the ground, only to see a youth , scramble back up from the ground and jump back onto his scooter, as my husband called after him , and he gave us a mouthful of abuse saying it was ''our'' fault for being in the way!!
