Inconsiderate neighbor.....

We all love fireworks on the 4th...right? Our neighbor across the street started lighting them up around 9PM (and it doesn't even get dark here until almost 10PM), but I guess he had to get started early because at 11:30PM, he finally quit. We have old people, like us, kids, and pets in the neighborhood and I'm sure our neighbor next door that her husband just died a couple weeks ago didn't appreciate the loud booms one right after another. Her dog must have been a wreck. I know I was. Isn't there a curfew on this stuff??

OK...that's my gripe for today. I'm just cranky because I didn't get much sleep...haha.

The skies were noisy last night here until 1AM or so ... anyway, that is when I finally nodded off.
The worst time of the year is New Year's .... they seem to go well into the early morning hours.

We have a burn ban in place because of hot, dry weather -- but for some reason fireworks stands were open and doing business like normal.

We shot off our fireworks with our Grandkids on Saturday and Sunday night. We started at 9pm and finished at 10pm both nights...all had a good time. Last night, my wife and I heard a few folks shooting fireworks after 10pm. It was enough to keep our Golden upset, but all were done by midnight. We are retired...but don't really mind families having fun.

We really don't mind

I heard fireworks in back of me and in front of me. I thought that stuff was going to catch my house on fire, they were so close and loud.
I don't know when they stopped, cause I somehow managed to fall asleep.

In fact, it's against the law here in the city, but I live in the county...

They don't sell fireworks in my town but they do in another town in this county. They were interviewing people there and I couldn't believe the prices of that stuff! Seems people manage to have money for that.

I'm sorry it was so noisy in your area. It wasn't too bad here. Luckily I didn't work today. I was thinking of the ducks, geese and other wildlife at the ponds.

I wanted to sleep in another hour but someone was throwing up a hairball on the bed.

Blah don't get me started on it. I live in Pennsyltucky. If you aren't wearing the flag as a shirt or detonating explosives you don't love your country.
Abbie Hoffman, one of my favorite people who ever lived, broke the law when he wore an American Flag shirt in 1968. That's the repression we lived under back then, that kind of nonsense. I thank him for challenging our ridiculous law at that time. Most of the American Flag shirt wearers of today probably don't know the role this great guy played in the history of their chosen fashion.

"The Trial of Abbie Hoffman's Shirt

On a recent Sunday, hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists from across the United States converged on Washington for the annual Rollling Thunder memorial ride to honor America’s war veterans. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Richard Myers, joined the parade wearing a shirt emblazoned with the American flag. Ah, if only Abbie Hoffman could have witnessed that. In October 1968, he was arrested in Washington for wearing a shirt that resembled the design of an American flag."

Somehow I'd never heard of that.
When I was in high school- years later- one of my classmates often wore an American flag shirt. He was a patriotic guy.

We enjoy watching the fireworks for maybe 15 minutes and then back to our movie or reading. We expect to hear them on a few holidays, but it’s OK. I do feel bad for dogs that are nervous. My daughter gives her dog a sedative from the Vet. He will lay down and go to sleep. I think she gives the dog Diazepam.

I've been hearing the booms well past 11:30. Last night they sounded much closer. Turning on the AC helped to drown some of it out. I imagine it would really scare the neighborhood pets. My inconsiderate neighbor story: I go down to the laundry room in the middle of the night. I have to go outside and down steps. A couple of weeks ago, I came upstairs and heard this music blasting. It had to be around 3:00 a.m. and it sounded like it was coming from the building across the courtyard. So if it was that loud to me...I know the people in that building must've been fuming.

It was better this year. In the past they would start setting off loud fireworks a week before and a week after the 4th. New Years was the same, but they must not have as many to set off this year. I have some good hearing protection for shooting and at 10pm I put those on and can get to sleep. Last night I took them off at 12:30 am and they were still setting of fireworks that often shook the windows until 2:00 am. 🧨💣

@Timewise 60+ had it right.

Yes, I know I will be hated for what I'm about to write:

Imagine you were a child FOR ONE DAY or had just landed on the Earth and never seen the magic of fireworks !
Imagine you saw the magic in everything, the aliveness in everything, FOR ONE DAY!
Imagine how things would be if FOR ONE DAY you didn't complain about ANYTHING!
You didn't gossip today, or judge anyone or anything. You were not critical of anything.
If you saw everything as joyful and wonderful! You saw everything with new eyes.
You're not old anymore. You see everything as fresh, new and exciting.
FOR ONE DAY you are tolerant of other's happiness. You giggle at what used to make you frown.
You would be astonished at the incredible things that would happen in your life!

The fireworks are a celebration of the birth of the greatest nation on the Earth.
One day it will be great again. Join in. Celebrate with abandon!

Sorry if this post offended anyone.

Came down to Florida to visit my mom. Last night, we heard and saw plenty of fireworks in her neighborhood. It was sort of exciting to have it so close by. Usually, we'd have to drive somewhere to see the fireworks. I was like a little child, enjoying it all from her window. At the same time, we watched the 4th of July in D.C. on PBS. It was memorable for me. However, by midnight, it was becoming a little too much as we we tried to go to sleep! :)

I attended the fireworks last night in our city. It was lovely, but I was appalled at the number of people who brought their dogs with them. Lots and lots of dogs. Bringing dogs to a major fireworks display is animal cruelty, in my opinion.

Not only is it distressing to the dogs, but there's the chance that the dog may react badly and bite someone. That happened to me about 30 years ago at a fireworks display. A dog became frantic and nipped me just above the ankle. Luckily, I had on thick jeans and the bite was light and didn't break the skin or even scratch me.

I was furious at the owner. I didn't blame the dog at all.

Makes your heart swell big enough to sing God Bless America, while setting off a box of M-80s.
