India fired missiles across the border into Pakistani 'terror camps' in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, days after it blamed Islamabad for a deadly attack on the Indian side of the contested region.

The long-simmering conflict between the neighboring nuclear powers intensified dramatically overnight.

Fighter jets roared through the skies over the Himalayan territory early Wednesday and the sounds of explosions could be heard near the so-called Line of Control.
The strikes came amid soaring tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors over last month's militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.

India has blamed Pakistan for backing the militant attack, which Islamabad has denied.
The missiles struck locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the country's eastern Punjab province early Wednesday.

CNN reported that five locations were struck. Three of those locations – Kotli, Muzaffarabad and Bagh are in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

One of them struck a mosque in the city of Bahawalpur in Punjab, where a child was killed, one official said.

Pakistani officials confirmed that Pakistan had launched retaliatory strikes, without providing any details.

The Pakistani army spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif, told ARY News that the missiles were launched from within Indian territory and that no Indian aircraft had entered Pakistani airspace.

'This was a cowardly attack targeting innocent civilians under the cover of darkness,' Sharif told the broadcaster.'

The Indian army has also posted to X tonight writing that 'Justice is Served' and 'Jai Hind!!', which translates to 'victory to India'.

Multiple explosions were heard in the Pakistani Kashmir area close to the city of Muzaffarabad on Tuesday night, according to Reuters.

It seems like every 15 or 20 years, these two countries start fighting again.

yes sadly this seems very serious this time

  • India says the missile strikes are in response to a deadly militant attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam last month

  • Indian-administered Kashmir has seen a decades-long insurgency which has claimed thousands of lives. India and Pakistan both claim Kashmir in full

In a dramatic overnight operation, India said it launched missile and air strikes on nine sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, targeting what it called militant positions based on "credible intelligence".

The strikes, lasting just 25 minutes between 01:05 and 01:30 India time (19:35 and 20:00 GMT on Tuesday), sent shockwaves through the region, with residents jolted awake by thunderous explosions.

Pakistan said only six locations were hit and claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and a drone - a claim India has not confirmed.

Islamabad said 26 people were killed and 46 injured in Indian air strikes and shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) - the de facto border between India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, India's army reported that 10 civilians were killed by Pakistani shelling on its side of the de facto border.

India strikes - how will Pakistan respond? Four key questions

I don't think this is good, especially at this time with the Russia-Ukraine War still going on. The really bad part is that both of these countries have Nukes. The good news, if you want to call it that, is that neither country belongs to NATO, so the U.S. can stay clear of that conflict, although if push comes to shove I would imagine we would favor India over Pakistan because they have been known to hide Islamic Terrorists.

Why don't they divide Kashmir and lock down the border between the two countries? It kind of reminds me of North and South Korea blaming each other of trying to restart the war. North Korea having a Nuclear arsenal, although be it, a small one, doesn't help relations. It keeps everyone on edge.
