Infusion

For those that may be facing this in their future,, ask questions of your doctor.
After mine was done yesterday,, got handed papers telling me all about what went into my blood. .

Before going in drink 2 glasses of water.
I had no reaction,,, till I went to bed,, headache.
Was blaming that on too much eye strain,, reading novels & computer.

OK to back track,,, we were the first ones in the short out patient area of hospital.
I got an older male nurse,, slow.

Ack think the needle was dull & didn't help that my vein rolled around.
When I get nervous I talk a lot .
What was upposed to take 25 minutes,, took 2 hours.

I'm guessing this is what you are posting about.

Infusion therapy — also known as IV therapy — involves administering medications intravenously. This is done by injecting a needle directly into the patient's arm. It allows for much more efficient treatment of chronic illnesses since it delivers medicine, antibiotics, and/or hydration directly into the bloodstream.

I get an infusion every 3 months for my migraine headaches of medication called Vyepti. The actual infusion part takes about 30 minutes, but in total I am there in the outpatient infusion center about 2 hours total. I arrive and sign in and wait in the waiting room to be called back. Then they take my blood pressure and temperature and the prep nurse puts in the IV and then I go back to the area where the nurse is that will administer and watch the infusion. I sit in this comfortable recliner type chair and they even have those little pull over TV's so I can watch television. I also get asked if I want something to drink and I usually ask for water. Now this is the period of time where I just sit and wait. This is the time where the nurse calls down to the pharmacy and they make the medication which takes awhile. Once that is done and brought up to the infusion center the nurse hooks it up to the IV and within 30 minutes I am done and out the door. I have yet to have any side effects from the medication and it seems to work and do what it is suppose to do.

O,, sorry,, infusion was for bone density.
Hubby was sitting behind me while I was typing,, always think he reads over my shoulder.

The bone density infusion will be done every year.
So it took a long time, but went alright, Sliverfox?
It's not great that it took so long, and was done slowly, but I hope it will help you.
Will they monitor in some way, to show how it does or does not make a significant difference for you?
Thanks for sharing about it.

Oh, I also meant to ask if your headache went away, soon?

I'm due for a bone density test..

I currently take a Boniva pill every month, when I remember.

Were you taking monthly meds and they weren't enough?

p.s. i hope you dont mind me asking

My doctor had me taking Alendronate Sodium Tablets , once week.
Something that I would forget to take.
The tablets were in bubble pack to get the darn tablet on was difficult.

The last appointment with the doctor I asked about shots that wold be very 6 months.
Was told that insurance wouldn't pay for them,, but would pay for an infusion.

The bone density is just having them scan your bones.
