Inmate beaten to death by prison employees

Yea, I don't know where your diatribe about Leticia James comes from, and don't really care, but it's clear that these officers intentionally screwed over this inmate, with a great degree of malice. I don't know what the inmate did to piss off the officers, but what-ever it was, he didn't deserve to be beaten to death, especially by those changed with supervising his custody.
Well said Nathan !

What about the soapbox of police officer bashing? That is OK, but I am told "I" am on a soapbox?

It was Leticia James, she says right in the video she was the one who brought it to the attention of the family and then decided to released the video to the public. One of the food guys, prison guards, obviously reported it. It went up through channels..and when Leticia James got ahold of it, she said released it.

Normally, a video like that would be held until a trial is completed; not distributed to the public. Hence, once I SAW the entire video, re-ran it about 8 times, looked for other versions, was outraged at not just the guards, but at an Attorney General who put it out for the public to see, even before a trial is set.

A sad day for American judicial system. Disgusting.
Maybe she felt that because these officers are going to be charged (I hope), that it was important that the public see why they are being charged. To forestall problems from friends and family who might not appreciate the gravity of what they did.

I think it takes a certain mentality to get into that line of work and not all of them are necessarily nice people.
I applied once to be a registered nurse via a private firm that furnished nurses and medical staff (EMTs). Before the second interview I was offered a to attend a "get to know the environment" visit to a state prison.

Withdrew my application after the visit. Just the noise and smell was enough.

She prejudiced the public for her own benefit. Illegal. She has done this before; just check out her online social accounts.

This diatribe against Leticia seems a ' shoot the messenger' thing - she may not be perfect but the thread isn't about her and her releasing the video doesn't change what the officers did

There is no 'but' - but the situation or but the prisoner was scum or but they work 12 hour shifts etc etc

It is not her place at this time to make that decision for the reason she did it.
She didn't do it for anyone else but her own, personal agenda.

No it does not change what they did. I am as upset about the poor prisoner, too!

She isn't just a "messenger", either.

I can't believe no one else takes what she has done personally or is alarmed by this subsequent action by an Attorney General of NEW YORK. Here is an excerpt from what her job's main purpose:

"The Attorney General serves as the guardian of the legal rights of the people of New York, its organizations, and its natural resources".

So these accused men have no legal rights she is to protect?
She is bound by law to protect the rights of BOTH parties!
She didn't protect these men!

That is why my "diatribe". I am passionate about all people's rights: equally.

You seem more bothered by what Leticia did than what the officers did.

Am bothered equally by both, but wanted to point out this AG committed a crime, too.
She took away the right to a fair trial.
She has no business in creating a lynching mob among "her people" for her own personal gains.

This thread isn't about her though - and again you seem more bothered by what she did than what the officers did.

Why the need to denigrate her and barely in passing mention what the officers did?

Oh how I hate the media. According to Wikipedia this was a musician that completed his GED while incarcerated.

No mention of
"Robert Brooks, from Greece, New York, was 35 years old in 2017 when he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison along with four-year post-release supervision for stabbing his long-time girlfriend, 34-year-old Diana Rivera, in the chest, neck, side, and back."

No mention "anywhere" yet about what he did. Did he spit in the guards eyes? Crickets thus far. I expect the guards did not wake up one morning and collectively decide "hey let's beat a guy to death today"

Maybe 3 months from now we will know many more specifics. ☹️

I don't have spectrum so I can't see it without Sighing up to watch.
But back in 75 a couple friends of mine. Both had businesses were
out being boys will be boys and the City police smacked em around
some with Billy clubs. They spent the weekend in the Hospital and
had some tape and gauze over their eyes and jaw / nose areas.

The knowledgeable thought is do not resist. Assist & STFU, call a lawyer.
Mums the mouth of silence. Letting your lawyer shoot his mouth off is wise.

Essentially what you are saying is that my level of "bothered" by this slaying isn't being expressed enough on this thread, and that ONLY a vote is being taken? What about the diatribes of negativity and insinutations I read about police? The snide remarks?

Perhaps the emotional noise CREATED by this illegally distributed tape - is too great for some to see my point?

This breach of the American legal process by an Attorney General is JUST as outrageous as this murder?

It is a bullet this AG put into the body of American JUSTICE.

She didn't do it for anyone else but her own, personal agenda.
And what is that agenda? Again, to be seen to be doing the job she was hired to do? Stop illegal acts, violence, protect the rights of everyone?

And you keep using the word 'illegal' in the description of releasing the tape. What makes you think it's illegal? "
The release of this footage follows Attorney General James’ directive that camera footage obtained by her office during an OSI investigation be released to the public to increase transparency and strengthen public trust in these matters. Attorney General James Releases Footage from Investigation into Death of Robert Brooks

If those men don't want to be seen beating a man to death, they should have followed the rules and behaved like decent men.

Yes.

Because his crime is irelevant - it doesn't mitigate what they did.

And yes I'm sure they didn't plan to beat him to death - that isnt an excuse either. If somebody spits in your eye you can't go into a wild frenzy and beat them to death.
