Insect stings…

When I rode a motorcycle I wore a face shield to protect my face from the inevitable collisions with bugs. Once a bumble bee got inside the shield and was quite unhappy as I heard furious buzzing. I found a place to pull over and took off the helmet and found the bee with his stinger stuck in the helmet's padding above my forehead. Whew! That was a close one.

I’ve been lucky since it’s been almost 20 years since my last sting. At that time, I got yellow jacket stings on both legs while using a riding mower. They can even nest in the ground, and are practically invisible until they’re on you. The pain from multiple stings was truly maddening, you almost want to die so it will stop.

The pain from my current sting in my lower inner arm has passed, but now I have an itch as it’s healing. Calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream takes that away for a few hours. Eventually frost will kill these nasty things that plague us! 🐝

How about you? Do you have any sting experience stories, or home remedy suggestions for their treatment?
Have had many bites, stings and the like in life, but know of no good remedy besides time, and a bit of whiskey maybe.

My worst was from a Portuguese man of war. I was swimming in an unusually heavy surf near Pensacola. Several days of strong south wind had created the surf, and I was enjoying the waves. It also pushed some man o wars up from the tropics. One hit me right in the face, did not see it until it was too late. My face was so swollen up so much I could only barely open one eye. I was young and poor so did not go to a doctor, just bore the pain and waited. In a few hours the swelling started to go down, by the next day it was just an itch. Hope your bite goes the same way soon!
