Most instructions, no matter how ridiculous, are there because some idiot not doing the obvious, sued the company.

A lot of times the pictures can be for people of other languages that aren't on the can. I worked with vietnamese people who didn't speak english but used visuals to communicate and do things.

It's probably some safety crap some surveyor decided needed to be on the can as well.

Beezer I understand why you're confused, the first picture really should be of the can with the can opener attached. Write to the company and ask how to attach can opener.

Be sure you read and understand the can opener instructions before reading the chili bean instructions ..

And if for some reason, you can not find the can opener. A screwdriver works some what as good

When I lived in Montana, we used to open our cans with a 357 Magnum. But we did go through a lot of chili.
