Interesting History for Boxing Fans

I read books on any topic that looks interesting. My favorite library has a used book area that I love. You can contribute a few bucks if you wish. But most people just take and bring back titles on a weekly basis. That means a great turnover of books every month.

I picked up "Two Ton" by Joseph Monninger. The subject is someone I never heard of, Tony Galento. The year was 1939 and Tony was a tavern owner from Orange, New Jersey. He was short, fat and flabby but also quite full of himself. It was arranged he would fight Joe Louis...someone far younger, taller and a superior fighter.

By the end of the night Tony entered the record books as one of the few who took down Joe Louis. I live in walking distance to Orange and know much about the state's history but never heard of Tony Galento before. You learn something new all the time, interesting read indeed:D

I was just a kid but I knew about Two Ton Tony because my dad was a fight fan.
I lived in Paterson New Jersey in 1941 and saw Joe Louis fight Billy Conn on a 4 inch TV Set, It was just two shadows.
