I am a 68 year old grandma raising my 14 year old grandson by myself. We have each other, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and one turtle, and no one else. I still work full time and will as long as I can. We have a good life which I am hoping we can maintain until he at least graduates from high school--college would be better.

Hello lynda, Welcome to our forum. Your life sounds very busy, and maybe you don't have enough time for yourself. I hope you allow us to be one of the pleasures in your life.
I am 62, and I live in Texas. I too have raised grandchildren, and put three through college. The oldest is now 30, the youngest is 23, and just graduated last week.

Hello Lynda and a warm welcome to the forum.
My admiration goes to you for looking after your grandson, that shows you are a very
caring and loving person.
I have one adult grandson and I love him very much. When he was a toddler and growing up
he spent every other weekend with me and his grandpa. It was a joy to have him spend time with us.

Hi Lynda!...and a big "Texas Turtle WELCOME" to you and your Family!

You are a blessing. :) I lived with my grandmother when I was in 7th grade. I really, REALLY wish they would have left me there.

Hi Lynda :) Very nice to meet you. I really admire you for your loving heart and raising your Grandson by yourself....that is hard work, and he is Very Blessed to have you in his life. :)

Welcome Lynda.Nice that you have your grandson with you.One thing I am missing is grandchildren.

But life is good.

Enjoy your time here.

Yum! Thanks. I lived in Houston for 10 years and have nothing but good memories.

Yeah, my grandma took care of me until I was eight. She died then. I was angry with her for a long time because she left me when I needed her so very much. I don't want to leave my grandson until he's ready....and I know I have no control over that. I know nana didn't either and I also know she is still with me, always.

I can identify. I live where I do because I want my grandson to feel grounded. If I didn't have him with me, I would like to be a gypsy wandering around the world. But I do have him, and I wouldn't change it for anything. This is what I am supposed to be doing. Not the life I planned, but the life I have been given--and I am blessed by it.

I totally admire Gparents who do this, I agree with you there is no better calling "we are talking about a life' and God knows they provide you with soooo many happy and sweet moments. My grandson sent me a picture of his first fish caught yesterday and my thought was da r n it I wanted to be the one that took him. We've been but no fish. You are in the right place and the world is a much better place because of you and that is in honesty.

I was blessed to be there with my grandson when he caught his first fish. I caught my first fish too! We have been scalloping together too. We have kayaks and enjoy the beauty of Florida's rivers and springs regularly. He is my greatest joy, my best friend. I am so blessed to have him in my life.
