Well, here I am spending 12 days touring the beautiful state of Iowa. I have seen lots and lots of very interesting things. From a Dutch town to a Danish town. From Jesse James first train robbery to a Bonnie and Clyde shootout.

Now, I'm spending 4 days here in Des Moines. Big city with lots and lots of noise but we saw most of the downtown sites on Sunday. I'm staying in the part of the city called Johnston. It is very clean.

I have really enjoyed my time here and find Americans in Iowa very nice and friendly. They love to talk and aren't afraid of strangers. Actually, the folks here in Iowa are a lot more friendly than almost anywhere in Canada. Sorry fellow Canucks but sometimes the truth does hurt.

Tomorrow we are headed east to the Mississippi border. Some folks laugh and call Iowa a "flyover state." They must be kidding. If I had to choose where to live it would be Iowa. California, Florida, Chicago and New York might be nice places to visit but for real life give me Iowa any day or any night.

Take lots of photos .. safe travels!

I have a cousin in Iowa and have visited him a few times. He just retired and is building a new home. I was OK with it because of all the farms we visited. My cousin worked for Lincoln Electric in Cleveland snd had only one customer, John Deere. He had his office inside one of their plants.

He knew a lot of the local farmers because he would stop and visit with them if they were a Lincoln customer. I worked on a farm during high school, but a different type of farm.

My husband was born in Iowa and lived on a farm. He tells stories about living there and wants to go back sometime to visit. It does sound like a lovely state. I am glad you enjoyed the visit.

One of my favorite YouTube channels is Cole the Cornstar, about a farm located in Iowa.....enjoy your travels in the US.

I have been in Iowa years ago. It was late summer or early fall and I remember fields after field of corn. Of course, at the beginning of May, the fields are bare but I have learned something new. Iowa has some really big rivers. No, not just the Mississippi but others like the Des Moines or the Iowa River.

I would also like to add for those folks who do not live in the USA and get their information on this country. You are only seeing the media version of the USA. The real version is so different. Iowa is a very prosperous State with good farms and plenty of good industry. The folks are super friendly. Today I could not find my motel and anywhere you ask people, they are very helpful.

I will leave Iowa with very positive feelings and I will know that when I read or watch the news about the USA I am not getting the full picture.
